I was just wondering if anyone had a simple detailed D.I.Y. on how to put LED bulbs in to change my a/c, defog and cruise lighting so it lights up blue instead of orange.......i know its a bad explination but ya get the drift....thanks

go to ledautomotive .com you can by the kit for like $12 and then just do it yourself

hey gearbox, would u advise to buy that? or just go gather up all the little parts on ur own, instead. (keep in mind i have no idea wtf i need to do a LED climate control. haha.)

i bought their kit, but there just doesnt seem to be enough light so then decided to just do it on my own. Over the summer im going to add even more leds to make them brighter.

I bought there kit and I like it. On their site are a bunch of DIY's...I did a couple for them

i would vouch for ledautomotive.com, however it may not be perfect due to how they do it. replacements fit in the bulb holes and don't always shine the right way. Better to diy with free standing leds.

LEDautomotive.com's DIY for the A/T shifter LEDs is incorrect btw.

yes, also it's better to use isopropyl alcohol instead of the razorblade to take the paint off the bottom layer.

ok well im just gona go 2 frys then to pickup everything i need?

anyone kno what size LEDs i need, what resistors to get, what kind of solder i need, 24 gauge wire is what the website said they use - is that the right one, and do i need anything else?

btw, if i can fit it. would it be a bad idea to double up on the number of LEDs in the climate control to make things a bit brighter?

check out www.superbrightleds.com for some 5mm leds. then just go to radio shak and get your resistors, i dont remember exactly but i think it was 680 ohm. there is diy on the site by ocelaris, i think.

Blue clear 5500 mcd 15° 470 nm is fine right? i have no idea what the hell "5500 mcd 15° 470 nm" is. lol

im guessing the higher the MCD the brighter it is?

and whats the deal with viewing angle, which one is the best?

The resistor is what deterimine how bright it is i think... im not sure though...

mcd millicandelas = brightness
get a resistor that's too little and the led will blow. get one too high and it'll be too dim. i think i used 560ohm for blue

If you're using white or blue you need 470 ohm resistors.

The DIY's I made for them are updated for our cars. I dont think they put them up on the site but I can email them to you if anyone wants them.

i bought the kit from ledautomotives. i agree that some of the instructions weren't the best way to go though...had to get a new shifter assembly due to the razor blade step making a mess of the letters.

whats a good intensity to get and viewing angle?

all leds should be sanded down and then polished to increase viewing angle. Don't sand too much cause if you hit the metal parts inside it won't work. I used 560 ohm for my blue..I guess that was too much so they're dimmer.

polished? what do u use to do that?

btw, im having a hard time finding a place 2 pick up the LEDs for cheap. superbrightleds.com is pretty expensive, its like a $1.29 or something for each led. i saw one place that sold blue leds for like .40 C a piece, are they realy that crappy quality?

im assuming i need like 15 blues and 8 whites to be on the safe side. (just incase i lose some, or fry em out). i was planning to go 2 LEDs per button on the bottom w/ 1 white to light up the top for the ac, defrost, circulation. and do 2 sets of 3 blue leds for the fan, heat, and air direction climate controls.

all the diys ive read use like 2 or 1 for everything. but seems like alot of people are saying things are too dim, so i thought it wouldnt hurt 2 double up on the quantities lighting each part. good idea or no?
