Have a 2001 Civic HX - Do I have ANY options?

Hi Everyone,

I bought this 2001 HX and it's great on the gas economy, but I do find myself wanting some more speed, and willing to sacrifice some mpg to get it.

I figured I'd start out small, plasma coil spark, or exhaust system refits, etc.

So I started looking on the web for aftermarket upgrades, but don't seem to find any with HX specific options. Am I looking in the right places, or am I kinda screwed and stuck with just 117 horses and 525 miles per tank?

Suggestions other than get a different model?

Thanks,

MrHonda

just use the specs for the 2001+ EX models

EXCEPT for the downpipe/header

and you should be fine

the only way ull get noticably more speed is FI

Don't waste your money with bolt-ons. They do little (very little) to nothing on 7th gen's. It's true, FI or engine swap is the only way to get REAL gains.

Just enjoy your 525 miles (!) per tank. I wish I got anywhere close to that! I average 300.

swap it man..itd make the streets a better place for that car... i average around 360

If you want some extra sound, get a K&N fipk intake and a header. Maybe rear section exhaust. You won't gain alot tho. Save all the money you would've spent on crap and get the turbo later.

hey i have an hx too... i am going to do a swap because cvt cannot handle any power, except the audi version... already got the k20a3 and tranny from an si (i am going to turbo that is why i went with the si engine lower compression and the final drive on that tranny is the same as the type r but it is only five gears so the turbo will be spooled up longer)

the CVT handles boost better then the regular autos....

have you turboed one up... if so how long has it been running...

the reason why is say that is because honda's cvt is friction cvt, or pulley and belt driven... the belt is made out of a flexible steel but how it grips the pulley, or sometime called a drum, then you are relying on the surface area... so to me it looks like it could not handle the torque from a turbo... that is if it is designed the same way as saturn's cvt which i have seen taken apart... audi however uses a chain instead of a belt and the drum has teeth so it can grip better... now at low boost seetings i se it possible but higher boost i don't see it being to handle torque... that is why it comes with a stock tranny fluid cooler (which was on of the first things i changed and put an all aluminum tranny cooler meant for a heavy duty truck) because it needs it to run as long as a normal auto (stock)... plus i think the rev limiter is lower than the dx/lx and ex...

oh yeah here is a links from honda new zealand on cvt
http://www.honda.co.nz/site/technology/cvt.html

plus this site has a picture of the tranny

oh yeah, if you do turbo one, and i am wrong that the tranny can hold up, your car should be faster than a turboed 5sp vic if both are runnig the psi and cfm... i was going to try this until i f*cked up my subframe, so if anyone wants to try turbo a d17a2 w/ cvt pm for engine, tranny and ecu (it is just limited 117mph)

civic HX power

I changed the plugs to dual point platinum plugs and changed the air filter
with a washable foam filter. I seem to have dropped two seconds off my
0-60 times (8.5sec.) All other changes were not engine related. I added
rose wood dash, trunk liner, mud flaps, extra undercoating, hood cushion,
lambs wool seat covers, keyless remote, AC, leather wrapped steering wheel
cover, custom floor mats, wheel locks. Color is Metallic Clover Green.

sure you have options as long as you have money to do it with. Anything you can think of is possible as long as funds are there and whats already been listed above
