RS*R ExMag is in! (I HAVE RECORDINGS)

Holy shit this thing is ****in awesome! It does not fart, it does not burble, it just hums sonorously....
Windows up, 65 mph, you hear nothing... highway cruisers... this is the one! It seems to quiet down at higher speeds... its a little audible below 30, but nothing bad... when you take your foot off the gas above 4K, you can also hear it... other than that, its pretty quiet. Imagine a stock exhaust volume... just a few notes lower.
It does pretty much what it's supposed to do... it clears up the mid-range... which it does quite well... the car is much more responsive to a touch of the gas, I now find that I don't have to downshift at 35... I can leave it in 4th, and it just kinda goes (in a Civic definition of fast). Well worth the over $500 I spent on it. Construction wise... it's pretty straight through, ceramic coated stainless. The muffler looks to be steel wool or glass lined. Right now it's in that kinds stinky phase... so I gotta drive it around for a while until it burns out. Clears the RSX sway bar with ease, but my car is not dropped.
I don't have anything to record it with right now... I'm working on getting a video digicam this weekend for autocross... so I'll record it then. Right now... here's a few bad pics (it got dark)

As far as who has it... massimoperformance.com and modacar.com are 2 that I am aware of. I got it from autoall.com, they took a little while to get it here (a little over 2 weeks), but I caught a free shipping promo and jumped on it.

I am ready for the question barage.... ok, go.

Recordings are on PAGE 2.

drop me a line

horatio 08-04-2003 09:47 PM

Boilermaker, good to see the install went well. can u messure the tip for me. id like to know the diameter of the outlet.

Thanks in advance,
Jon

Boilermaker1 08-04-2003 09:52 PM

The polished tip is 4". The liner inside is about 3.75 or so.

SlammedBlueEM2 08-04-2003 10:51 PM

I have to say that's the most impressive looking exhaust systems for a 7th Gen I've ever seen.

Do whatEVER it takes to get a sound clip of it. Inside the car, outside the car, fly-by, cruising at 80, @WOT from 1st to 3rd! EDIT: Oh yeah, and definitely idling and revving up that sucka, y0! :)

How much does it weigh? What other mods do you have?

Boilermaker1 08-04-2003 11:00 PM

If I had to take a completely blind guess.. I'd say around 35-40 lbs. The rear section was a bit heafty, but the pipe weighed next to nothing. Only other power mod is an Injen CAI. I'll have lots of sound this weekend... an autocross lap with a camera in the car should serve as a pretty good sound check.

SlammedBlueEM2 08-04-2003 11:09 PM

Oh, and this is an EX exhaust, right?

All you need is a good header. Too bad the only good one requires an engine lift or shaving the motor mount for an EX manual. Blah. Well, that's up to you.

At any rate, I can't wait to see/hear your car autocross.

Alex1 08-05-2003 07:34 AM

do they have one for an LX or DX? that way there is no modification to the exhaust involved.

Alex1 08-05-2003 07:35 AM

oh and is the tip removable? i dont like the chrome look on the tip.

Boilermaker1 08-05-2003 07:40 AM

As far as I can tell... the tip is welded in. It looks like you'd have to torch it off. There is no LX/DX version of it that I'm aware of... the box came to me marked as ES3... which is the sedan... so it does fit 2 or 4 door models.

LateNightNinja 08-05-2003 09:05 AM

it looks good and if i were to get an exhaust, this would be the one. but one question, i'm not a fan of the whole 4" tip thing, can you get a smaller diameter tip?

Boilermaker1 08-05-2003 11:23 AM

No you can't get a smaller tip... but to be honest... it looks right at home. It fills out the cut in the bumper very well and looks to be in perfect proportion. I suppose if you were to cut it off, you could knock it down to about 3.75" but it would probably be all ugly looking since the cutting torch would screw the ceramic up.
everything is kinda dirty right now. When I clean it up later, I'll take some far away pics and you can see.

THEANTIRICEST 08-05-2003 01:22 PM

sounds like a great mod! I need to buy one!

civicvtec1ps 08-05-2003 02:51 PM

Borrowing office camera tonight... as long I can get it to record (last time I tried it didn't work), you'll hear lots tonight.

mphole 08-05-2003 06:59 PM

you finally did it boiler! kicks arse. post clips asap!

2k2civicRAY 08-05-2003 07:39 PM

Post some more pics of it in the day light!!! Let us know of how it sounds after it gets broken in. Can you compare the sound to another exhaust you have heard??? Or is it in its own little category?

Boilermaker1 08-05-2003 07:56 PM

Ok... here's a few pics from far back...

And now what you've been waiting for... sounds...
(if you are on 56K, you will meet your doom)

Idling

Revving in the driveway - Hanging camera out window... enjoy looking at the Bimmer

Offramp fun

The famous WOT 0-80 Dash - Yes... I bogged the shit out of it.

Another full blast run

I tried recording it on the highway with the windows up... nothing came out... its too quiet.
I was trying to drive and hold the record button at the same time... so enjoy looking at my knee.

THEANTIRICEST 08-05-2003 08:35 PM

sounds great, thats probably one of the best, if not the best, that I've heard.

RSDCivic 08-05-2003 08:48 PM

that sounds really good man, definitely one of the best that I've heard

KeNsHiN 08-05-2003 08:48 PM

yeah i agree sound great no rice!

civicvtec1ps 08-05-2003 08:56 PM

sounds excellent. i love it

kTxCiN 08-05-2003 11:56 PM

yeah that sounds great! that seems to be the same exact way my skunk2 sounds.

Soon2BeGrlRacer 08-05-2003 11:57 PM

sound really good man

SlammedBlueEM2 08-06-2003 12:22 AM

It sounds nice. Skunk2 is a lil' deeper - and yet a bit higher pitched in the high RPMs.

It sounds nice but it's not the sound I'm looking for. Still, overall gets the thumb upz, y0!

VTECTypeR 08-06-2003 01:47 AM

Sounds really nice. One of the best Ive heard

horatio 08-06-2003 01:56 AM

thanks for coming through with the recordings. damn now i want one. the low profile is just what i need

Boilermaker1 08-06-2003 09:22 PM

Well, it's breaking in/burning junk out... and I'm surprised... its doing the opposite of what I thought... its actually getting QUIETER. This is simply wonderful. I've got a couple of my friends who are dumbestic drivers (the V8 RWD kind) liking the sound of this thing.

SlammedBlueEM2 08-07-2003 12:23 AM

And the tip really ain't that bad. Polished tips w/dark mufflers own.

Krepoort 08-07-2003 02:23 PM

Very nice! I was thinking of getting a new exhaust in the future and that looks pretty sweet.
