they use rods in the front? how? i thought you couldnt with mcpherson struts.. also you could use strut bags from CCE air for the front.. i'm sure that would lower the car more then the rods.

TRIPLExRATED Oct 9, 2002 09:19 PM

Yeah thats what the Hack Shack kit comes with. So far this is the only kit that I know of that is out for the civic. If anyone else knows of another kit let me know.

VNlilMAN Oct 10, 2002 01:23 PM

do you know how the air rods work in the front? did they fabricate the control arm?
here's the front strut bag from chassis tech http://www.kmwperformance.com/
i think air ride is supposed to come out with a bolt on kit soon too..

oh and civicpunker got his bags from kmw...

TRIPLExRATED Oct 10, 2002 05:27 PM

Hey thanks for the info but I dont think I could trust a company that I have never heard of before, when it comes to air rides. The only companies that I know are good quality, is Hack Shack (EAI) or AIMS. Rickey racer (Blow jax) is one of the companies you need to stay clear of.

VNlilMAN Oct 10, 2002 06:56 PM

ya i heard blowjax sucks, their compressers are loud as hell...
as for chassis tech, i think AIM sells their products.
as for air ride, i'm not sure what their exact name is but they are pretty big as well. their mainly known for trucks and just started on imports.

Brooks Oct 15, 2002 04:25 PM

Yes ther is a kit for the 2k1 Civic that works and works well. i am the one that did the install on the kit from hack shack. i have installed many kits before and this on was not a problem. the car did NOT use a strut bag setup like other car with the McPherson strut, it uses a can that can withstand 600,000 lb of side pressure before it breaks. the only down side to the kit is that the rear bag cup has to be welded in so its going to cost some money to get it cut out. and yes like others have said before the kit does use a firestone air bag. the kit cost my customer 2500.00 and 800.00 for install. it took me about 3 day to complete the job. if anyone on here can host some pictures for then ill email them to you so that you all can see that the kit does work and does exist. also anyone on this forum that some to me and wants the it installed ill give you the kit for 2100.00 instaed of the 2500.00 but labor is going to be the same seeing as how i have to weld in the rear.........

VNlilMAN Oct 15, 2002 06:35 PM

here, send them to me vnlilmanx637@hotmail.com
if the files are too big then e-mail me saying that and i'll give you my business e-mail.

so the front is a can? does it go inside out current strut?
and for the rear, why couldnt you just use cylinders and make a bracket for it?

Brooks Oct 16, 2002 05:41 PM

the front can is a full replacment can for the strut. the rear will not allow a can due to the different angels that is goes through so only a bag will work. i sent you those pictures, let me know when you get them up on a site so that i can post them else were.........

That was so informative!

I was wondering when I would find ENGLISH answers to my questions. Thanks so much for the post!

Brooks Oct 21, 2002 10:24 AM

thanks for hosting the pictures for me. let me know if any of you guys need anything

VNlilMAN Oct 21, 2002 10:46 PM

i sent you an e-mail but i guess you didnt read it... well i was just basically asking if you had pictures of the actual rods/bags themselves.
i'm curious to see how different companies make air rides for our cars. cause i know chassis tech uses rods in the rear and strut bags in the front. to be this sounds better cause i've heard of people popping bags, and the rear you could see the springs very easily. as the front, you could hardly see them at all.

TOOLOWCIVIC Oct 28, 2002 07:43 AM

So does this kit ride smooth with little or no bounce and why did you say it looks like it has blown shocks? Does it bounce a lot or ride smooth like air rides should ride?

speedracersong Nov 8, 2002 10:48 AM

i would also like to know if air suspension is good for performance. like taking corners at high speeds.

VNlilMAN Nov 8, 2002 11:18 AM

air suspension isnt really known for performance, mainly for show purposes. you can adjust the height but you cant really control the damper settings. but then i guess this is for serious auto-x people. if your just a daily driver looking to take corners at 20mph then it should be fine depending on the setup. it would have to be a FBSS setup cause if it was just a FB your car would be swaying too much. well unless if they're some sort of way to seperate each corner... but why would you even want a FB setup anyways :_please:. also keep in mind springs/coilover/bags arent the only suspension mod, sway bars, strut, tie bars all help out cornering...

TOOLOWCIVIC Nov 9, 2002 08:45 PM

Would it be good to get airbags and also get struts bars and sway bars? Would it help out a bit or is it not good to get that with bags?

VNlilMAN Nov 10, 2002 03:17 AM

i think it would actually be best if you have strut bars/sway bars... i'm not sure if you remember but some guy had dents on his car around his sunroof, some people are thinking its due to not having strut bars/sway bars. if your 3 wheelin, i would think alot of stress is put on your cars chassis so it might actually be a good idea to get things reinforced. i'm not trying to scare anyone tho, theres alot of people with bags and that dont have bars and their cars are still fine.

alex053 Nov 11, 2002 06:54 PM

Is there any way to get it to lay out in the front? If not i might have to go with hydros.

VNlilMAN Nov 11, 2002 07:11 PM

it depends on the kit, try asking civicpunker, i think he could lay the front.. well atleast lower then these guys...

id like to see what set up he used. also iv got more pictures and a video of the 2k1 that i bagged. you can got to www.wtncarclub.com and check out Josh's civic(thats the owner of the car)

VNlilMAN Nov 14, 2002 11:13 AM

he bought it from here here
heres a video

heres some pictures (i think theres only 1 or 2. not sure where the rest went)

alex053 Nov 14, 2002 07:06 PM

Ya. No lift on air.....im going hydros....now i have to go find room for some batteries.....ill be back...:)

VNlilMAN Nov 14, 2002 08:00 PM

lift as in driving it high or as in hopping?
civicpunkers kit doesnt go too high but that guy above does...
and yes you can make an air suspension hop. maybe not as high as hydros but you can... use cylinders and some big lines with nitro instead of air..

alex053 Nov 21, 2002 04:37 PM

No hopping but i want to be able to lock it up and have people know that its adjustable. Its just a show off thing. much cooler to bang on people with the lift is outta control

OsOBooSTeD Nov 26, 2002 10:41 PM

lol air ride sucks around turns...

VNlilMAN Nov 26, 2002 11:54 PM

thats only true when using front/back setup... if you have a f/b/s/s all the sides are "independent" so you dont get the air transfering from one side to the other

02CivicEX Nov 30, 2002 05:05 PM

awsome thread!!
with all of this info at hand i might actually change my mind and go with hydros, enless they come out with a air set up that will actually raise it a good amount and slam the front more.
Im not looking forward to getting rid of my system for batteries, but the outcome of hydros is much better

Matt Dec 4, 2002 09:20 AM
