Speedometer Calibration?

When getting a different tire size, the speedometer gets thrown off, usually going a couple percent too fast. So in 100,000 miles I could have an extra 3,000 miles or so... not cool if I can help it. Would the dealer recalibrate the speedometer when you have new rims on? Probably not but worth a try

I think I might get the 205/45/17 because the speedometer is almost off by nothing compared to the stock EX tires. Or maybe 215/45/17 and I gain 2% in putting miles on the car... just have a lot of rubber to spin

The dealer won't do it for free, but they'll do it if you pay them.......As for which size to get, if your roads are anything like the roads here in Brandon, you'll want the 215/45/17's What kinda rims are u getting anyway?

I was worried about the speedometer being all fudged up when I got my 17's but when I put em on nothing happened. 215/45/17 and nothing happened

your speedometer won't be screwed, but it will read a bit slower or faster than the actual speed...depending on the tire you choose....

215/45/17
the 45 is the percentage ratio of the 215, so basically 45 is 14% of 215 which is the tread width

so for example

215/45/17 might be same as 225/40/17
cause the 40% of 225 mightbe equivalent to 45% of 215, 225 has a wider tread

*none of this examples used might be correct but it is to give a rought idea about how tires are measured

I saw it on a auto show

Thinking of Katana C7's in white, 17's. Weigh less than the Motegis at around 20 lbs vs. something like 23-24. $899 for the package with 4 205/45/17 falken or kumho tires at wheelmax. Might be able to find a better price than there though. I can put up with the thinner tires for a year or 2 until they wear out, no big deal.

What do you guys think?
