Front Brakes and Rotors

I am about to change the pads and rotors on my girlfriend's 01 EX. I was wondering if I have to disconnect the brake line to change rotors like the Haynes manual says? I've never bled brakes before and would like to avoid it since I just had them bled a month ago.
Thanks!

no you dont have to.. just loosen the caliper and lift it up. Use a wire to suspend the caliper in the air and attach the other end to the spring or something. make sure not to bend or crimp the brake line.. just leave it suspended while you removed the rotors..

Is an impact screw driver necessary? I can't find one anywhere!

dont leave the caliber suspended....just support it w/ something like a can of paint *perfect height* while ur working on the rotors

It really doesnt matter...suspended or supported.. same difference.

You should only need a hammer and a no.3 phillips for taking off the rotor, but I would highly suggest an impact wrench or gun for loosening the calipers. Mine were stuck on there hardcore.. only air tools would get them off. An impact screwdriver you could use for the rotors but I dont think you actually need it..

The calipers were fine, I needed a giant 1/2 inch drive ratchet and some PB Blaster to get them off. The rotor screws were a pain and almost stripped. Then I finally found out that Sears had an impact screwdriver. I don't know why I didn't go there first! After that it was a piece of cake.
Thanks for your help!

read this if you are talking about those two philips head screws

screwing two long bolts into the holes works like a charm and doesnt damage anything

its only necessary if u cant take off those stubborn two screws on teh rotor...

but a impact screwdriver makes ur life a HELL lot easier...its like 15bucks...

also, as for rotors, id highly suggest getting oem...and not other stuff like bembo blanks (which suck)

stick with oem, its cheap and the best blank rotors...and get some hawks HP plus pads....then ur makes will drastically improve...

You shouldn't have to disconnect the lines. Thank God Honda loves us like this. I had a Dodge Dynasty, Ford Escort, and Mitsubishi Lancer before my Civic. You had to take the lines of for EVERYTHING. Pain in the ass. Just have something to loosen the calipers if they're stuck or go straight to the impact screwdriver. It's pretty easy to strip something and then you're really screwed. :hithead:
