Neuspeed Sports and 215/45/17: Will it rub?

I am running on Tokico Blues and Neuspeed Sports right now, with stock rims. I'm getting 17x7 rims (most likely the PIAA FR-S). I have gotten conflicting opinions on what tires will fit. I want to get 215/45/17, but the last saleperson I spoke to at a tire shop said they would rub. Opinions?

Back in the day, I had 17 x 7 motegi rims with 215/45/17 tires. They rubbed in the rear on turns or when I had any weight in the back. Go with the 205/40 size.

Was the problem with your 215/45/17 tires that they were too high (overall diamater), or that they were too wide? If I spend a little extra $$, I can get the less-common 205/45/17 size.

i have nuespeed sports and 18s wit 40 series tire and im fine

i had 215/45/17 on my rotas but i was dropped on coilovers. i had my skunk2 sleeves only 5 threads down and my rear about halfway. since i have a rear camber kit, i adjusted it so it was very little negative so the wheel would tuck and not hit the fender. as for the front, it could possibily rub on hard turning (that was my only issue).

consider the 205/45/17 size if thats not an problem, im sure with that size, you wouldnt rub. plus, its more ideal for a daily driver set of 17x7 rims anyways ;)

i have neuspeed sport springs and 215/45/17 kumo asx. My rears would rub on hard turns until i shaved off the metal strip under the fender. After that i didnt have any problems.

I have Sprint Springs (2inch drop) with 225/45/17 and no rubbing whatsoever... Getting 205/40/17 NeoGens in a couple days though.

I have 215/45/17's with a sportline drop and tokicos and it does not rub. Only whe i make fast sharp turns the front rubs the inner fenders. but thats cuz i have to much body roll.

I'm going to go with 205/45/17. I'll post pics in a couple weeks when everything is installed. Thanks for the advice.

I'm lowered 1.6F/1.8R and I have 215/45R17's...I haven't had any rubbing issues other then after I got it aligned, the guy only put -.3 camber in the rear...And they rubbed like a monkeyfo. If anything the next time I get tires I'll be getting 215/40R17's

why do you all use 40 or 45?? i have 35's... whats the major diff? also whats the diff between 205 and 215?

hdave 03-18-2006 09:28 AM

205 and 215 refer to the width of the tire in mm
theres a nice tire calc on this site which will help u learn a bit

i have nuespeed race which are even lower, and Im on 205/45/17s and i have no problem.

i had 225/45/17 azenis and they didn't rub in the front, well only when the steering wheel was turned all the way to 1 side on a incline. I had the rears on Neg camber so the rears wouldn't rub

bluestreak 03-20-2006 02:04 PM

well my 215-45-17's rub like a biatch with sportlines and hp blues, guess it's cause of the major offset on the rims - which were bought in 01 so there's nothing I can do until I get new tires....I'll just run neg camber but I don't think that'll work enough and I don't think shaving would be enough either?

I got this to fit, he got that to fit, she didn't get it to fit.

Standard answer: put em on, make it fit.
