205/40 or 215/45

currently i have falken 215/45/r17 on all wheels. i have 2 bent rims, about to replace those. although all 4 of my tires are good, i have been hearing that 205's are quicker and obviously lighter. so i searched for 205/45's, and they are more expensive than 215/45's, im guessing they are popular. so i searched for 205/40's and they were alot cheaper? i want to get these but will it be worth it? i also wonder how much different the 5 mm difference will look between my front and rear tires. when i go to the website where im buying my rims from, after you select the rims it goes to the tire selection. well they dont even show any of their 205/40's. they are all 45s. does the sidewall size have anything to do with what rims you get?

I personally prefer 215/45 because I like a little bit of tire on my rims. 205/40 looks just plain anemic to me.

No, the size of the sidewall is independent from the rims. You could put a 215/75 on the rim if you could find the tires... fitment for the car, however, is another story.

Oh, and I wouldn't ever have different sizes of tires on the rims of 1 car (Well, unless were were talking about a real rwd car, but that's, once again, another story.) Either buy two 215/45 tires or buy four 205/40 tires.

I have the 215/45... I got this mainly because the ride would be more comfortable and it doesn't look too beefy.

225/50/15's The tires have so much grip I beat a 350Z at AutoX and was 2 seconds a lap slower than a WRX Sti.
