HELP ASAP: replacing brake shoes....

hi guys!!

i'm planning to change my rear shoes for my drum.....now, i wanna change it because the "pulling/stretching" noises that comes from the drums when i pushed my brake while idling..

my questions:

1. does the rear brake actually brake the car when ur braking while moving? or is it only for hand braking?

2. what might be the possible causes for the "pulling/stretching" noises? the cables? the springs? pins?

3. when i change my rear shoes, do i need to replace any of the rear brake hardware (springs, pins, etc)?

I heard that there's a "rear axle brake kit" that you can use while fixing ur rear brakes....

thanx for your help!! i really need ur help now! =)

its recomended to replace everytime you change the shoes but not always needed. it will help the brake shoes return and stay in the rest posistion. Think of it this way, brakes make heat, LOTS of heat. Springs change temper with heat....... replace springs :)

icicicic..

so, grease on the backing plate? hm....that's on the metal part of the shoes, right? not on the pad, right?

Yes, where the shoes contact the back plate put a tiny amount of grease so the shoes can move back and forth easily. Never put grease on the pad part of the shoes.
