Cost of TB replacement, 1997 Civic LX

Hi,

What would be typical cost of timing belt replacement in 1997 Civix LX. Chicago area?
What is usually included in this job, a water pump. Anything else?

I just got some wild quote from Fox Valley Honda in Aurora, IL - $1.3K. Whereas just
googling "Civic 1997 TB replacement cost" gives me this:

"""
The average cost for a Honda Civic timing belt replacement is between $287 and $349. Labor costs are estimated between $237 and $299 while parts are priced at $50.
"""

Should I grab a TB from the dealer and find an independent mechanic ?

Thanks.

How many labor hours does the quote show? $1300 seems high but there's no way it would cost $300. I'd think somewhere right in between the two. Probably $6-800.

Being in the rust belt they may have added a couple hours for dealing with rust + some money for new bolts

dealer prices (choose one closest to you or lowest price, just search for online honda parts and find dealers - not sure if aftermarket parts cause issues or not, TB are not usually the issue so not changed frequently)

Just to close it off. An independent shop did the work for $848. That includes water pump, tensioner, TB and valve cover gasket.

I asked them to give me the old TB. To me it looks as good as new. A 24 year old TB. Feel a little stupid. But what you gonna do? Paying for peace of mind.

My vague recollection is that circa 2010 I paid $650 for timing belt change at the dealer (vs $1.3K they want now). I have a feeling they gave me the price to see me turn around and leave (meaning they do not want to deal with my rusty old "classic")

Sorry. usually, TB refers to Throttle Body. Timing belt is fully timing belt. My link was for throttle body (TB)
