Fuel Pump
 

Sooo, here is what I have going on.

About six months ago the fuel pump stopped working on my way to work. Brought it home, did some work and found out something was wrong with the sending unit. Bought a new one, still didnt work. Did some things and found that if I grounded out one of the pins on the sending unit harness the fuel pump would kick back on. So I bypassed the sending unit and just ran that part of the connector to ground. Gas gauge didnt work then but that was fine.

A week ago on my way home I went through a puddle, nothing major, but lost all power. Pulled the quick connect off the fuel tank on the side of the road and it wasnt pumping any fuel.

Checked outputs and grounds and they work. Relay clicks as it should when ignition is turned on. Bypassed electronics and ran fuel pump off another battery and works fine.

Any guesses? For the time being I bypassed everything and just hooked the fuel pump off an add a circuit from the under dash fuse box. Works fine like this.

Did you test the relay?

It clicks so I assumed it was good. I unhooked the harness out of it and did a jumper wire how the factory service manual said and got no response from the pump.

Easy enough to test to make sure, it's not an easy fix.

The relay as you may know is a coil driven switch separating two separate voltages. It's not impossible for the switch to move, while also having a break in the opposite circuit.

Like Mac said the none coil side could be the issue. I would test for voltage to make sure it is making it to the contact. If it's clicking it is making it to the coil but the contactor might not have voltage. If it does then there is a break on the way out to the pump. If there isn't then there is a blown fuse or bad connection going into the relay.
