Painting a replacement part - Paint Match - use Duplicolor brand or similar? Not sure what sub-forum/ thread to post this in.... My apologies if posting this here is incorrect. ---------------- I had a drivers side mirror clipped off on my '03 Civic Ex Sedan. Swapped it with one from my 'parts car' but it's a different color. Are any of the aftermarket cans of spray paint any good? I'm considering trying Duplicolor brand. I need to match color "B92P-4" aka "Nighthawk Black Pearl". Also if using the above is there any prep work to be done before painting? And is there anything to do after painting (like a gloss coat or sealer of some sort??). |
Re: Painting a replacement part - Paint Match - use Duplicolor brand or similar? I don't know if Duplicolor is any good but black is usually easy to match but shows any flaws. You will have to sand the old paint and apply a coat of primer before the color coat. I don't know if it will require a clear coat but since it says 'Pearl' my guess would be yes. If the new paint doesn't have the gloss you expect then it needs a clear coat. |

Re: Painting a replacement part - Paint Match - use Duplicolor brand or similar? The colour wont be a problem, it's the clear coat and finish which will give you issues if not done right. -sand original paint (you can leave the colour coat on but make sure it is rough enough to paint. -spray colour match coats -let dry to touch -spray a two part "2k" clear coat (the kind that has a primer button on the bottom). This will harden to car paint spec. -let dry for 1 month -wet sand 2000 grit -buff and polish to perfection. good luck. |
