30,000

is it necessary for a 30000 mile tune up..i havent done it but im gettn shitty gas milage is that why?

bullseye 06-18-2003 09:56 PM

There is no reason why your car should need a tune up at 30,000 miles. My 2001 has over 67,000 miles and it still has original plugs - only routine maintenance , oil/filter changes and air cleaner changes. Runs great and the gas mileage was still good on the last long trip I took.

nguyen949 06-18-2003 11:25 PM

how weird..i get such bad milage..im going to try to get a fuel injection..hopefully itll help...=/

HappyGilmore 06-19-2003 08:38 AM

make sure you have no extra load of stuff in your trunk. Every 100 lbs will reduce about 2-3 MPG. Also, try and go to another gas station to see if you get better gas. I have been using Exxon with 89 and I am getting about 32MPG 95% cty.

nguyen949 06-19-2003 01:56 PM

yeah i have 2 12's and rims...and i use chevron..but i think 250miles on a 12 gallon tank is awful...it cant be right..

gotti 06-19-2003 02:28 PM

Ive been getting around that. I think I just have a really heavy foot...

aznboysrfr 06-21-2003 05:40 PM

I noticed that I get better mpg w/ mobil than chevron.... but maybe it's just me...

Yakkolio 06-22-2003 01:21 AM

i get about 30mpg depends if i use AC. And i had 2 subs in my car

CivicRookie 06-25-2003 04:25 PM

Hmm.. I'm at 31,000 miles already and my car still runs fine. I can still get close to 400 miles a tank.

nguyen949 06-25-2003 05:33 PM

is there nething need too be done...cuz all ive really done was just 3k mile oil changes..no tune ups or nething..cuz i was told that i didnt need to...or were they wrong?...=/

DaveyD 06-25-2003 09:22 PM

IT all depends. I have been getting good gas mileage. 39 mpg on the highway, trunk packed with a cooler, 2 suitcases, and other shit. I have 30,000 miles, and a K&N Drop in Filter. Before I started my road ventrues, I purchased 3M Fuel Injector cleaner. I dont know if that helped. or there is a better type of gas down here in Kansas.

look at the Tech Forum for 30k DIY by Mex
on replacing pollen filter and bleeding brake lines

i used to average like 400 per tank....now
with the addicting vtec controller i get maybe 327
its so tempting to hear the AAAWWWWWW

BausHaug 06-28-2003 05:13 PM

What was odd for me was when I lived in Seattle, I was averaging 42mpg on road trips. Now that I moved back to cali (and added an Injen intake) I'm getting around 32mpg.

fine02civicgurl 10-16-2003 08:43 AM

they wanted to charge me $300 for a 30,000 mile tune up when all they would do is CHECK a whole bunch of crap. no one else that i know w/other kinds of cars ever has to bring theirs in for maintenance and use their college fund to pay for it.
honda is rediculous sometimes

tinman 10-16-2003 11:23 PM

If anyone is interested, ever since Chevron started their "techron" additive in the gas, my mileage dropped a lot. In EVERY car. I since switched to 76 or anything else. Mileage is back to normal. Try it.

Actually, I needed a MAJOR tuneup at only 17K. Plugs were fouled, tranny fluid was black...etc. Here's what I would do. All this should be easy to do yourself if you are a little familiar with cars.

-change oil (or have dealer do it)
-clean or replace air filter
-add a fuel injector cleaner to gas (techron)
-change tranny fluid (auto)
-change plugs (NGK iridium works great) if bad
