high rpm at low speed
 
i am having a weird problem with my 2004 civic ex coupe. my first gear goes to 4000 rpm at 15-20 mp. what might be the problem with my car?

if its manual tranny your clutch is toast,

if its auto tranny your torque converter and/or tranny are toast

I can make some cars do this if I drive a certain way.

I have an 01LX 5MT.
Its geared pretty low. I'm not sure you have a problem. I short shift 1st, usually less than 3k most of the time.

All the Honda manuals I've owned have had low gearing for 1st.
