Gauges kinda work???

So I get out of work just now, walk out into the rainy 75 degree atmosphere of lovely Florida, get into my lucky em2, turn it on and for some reason, as I hear the motor rev up to 1400 rpm, the Tach doesnt rev up. It stays at 0. Same with the water temp gauge, and the fuel gauge. Not even the srs light came on, or my seat belt, un-clicked sign thing. Not even the Maint Req'd light that popped on a couple of days ago. However, cluster lights up just fine, turn signals show up and high beams.. what..the hell?? Any ideas on what could be wrong? This happened ONCE before, and I freaked out for a minute because I felt like Robert DeNiro in Casino and didnt want to explode. So I turned the car off..waited 30 sec, and started her up just fine.. This time, I tried everything in the lot besides disconnect my battery and try and reset the ECU, which I will try 2morow morning.. in the meantime.. what up

OK Jose, we gotta start with this one in terms of, "What have I ****ed with lately?"

Answer me that question and I'll throw some other stuff out there as well.

So basically the only things that work in your cluster are the background lights, you indicators, and your turn signals. Nothing else. Correct?

If so, those are the only three things in your gauge cluster that aren't touched by the ECU. Everything else (SRS, speedo, tacho, etc...) goes to the ECU, gets processed to affect how the car runs or what warning lights come on and then the appropriate response is sent to the instrument cluster.

So we need to start with two things, connections on the cluster and connections on the ECU. ECU is easier to get at so start there. Disconnect the battery, drop the glovebox, pull the ECU plugs out and make sure the connections are clean and firmly seated. Once you do that, start the car and see what you cluster does. If it gives you the finger and still doesn't work, then give it the finger right back and check your cluster connections.

Pull the little cluster surround out, those 2 or 3 screws and then pull the cluster out. Lather, rinse, repeat on checking the connections. Start the car once you button it back up.

Let me know how this goes.

ok... in terms of what have i ****ed with lately. Nothing at all.. besides going in my trunk and opening my gas door, thats it. I had to go thru a dirt trail the other night to get somewhere which was a little bumpy.. but thats it

and the random rainfall last night, some people told me there might be condensation between wires somewhere??

im going outside now to check the ecu connections and cluster ones.. brb thanks
