T.D.C. Sensor

What is the job of the T.D.C. Sensor, and what part does it play in the engine? Mine went out when i was driving back to campus and my car cut off and I had to towed to Lumberton Honda, and they are supposed to be fixing it. Also Should I get my Timing belt changed now, I am at 100K or should I said until 110K?
Thanks

Re: T.D.C. Sensor

Its the timing trigger on the cam. It reads where the cam is, and combines it with where the crank shaft is (there's a crank sensor too) and ensures that the engine is in sync with itself, and also tells the ignition system where the rotating assembly is so that it sparks at the proper advance.
Do the timing belt and the water pump now, because you'll have to take the belt off to change the sensor anyways.
