I do get a funky smell coming from the vents, especially when I turn on the a/c. Have no idea what it is too. I just use air-freshener to get rid of the smell.

It is possible that during your oil change some oil was spilled or dripped on your exhaust. After you drove your car for a while your exhaust will heat up and this will burn the oil off. The smell should go away, if it does not then you may have a oil leak that is dripping oil on your exhaust. The burnt smell can come into the car through the vents when you are not using recirculation for heat or cooling.

<---What doc said... Also happens but very slightly when I turn on the A/C before the engine warms up.. smells like a slipping belt burning.. but it's not.. dunno what it is..but it's common.. even the loaner car I had when mine was in the shop did it

Cheers

I've noticed.. that it seems every car's A/C has a different smell If you don't want any weird smells coming from the vents, just put it on recirculation. I run it without recirculation every so often just to keep the vents clean. with my old Escort, I left the recirculation mode on for 2 years and when I used it again, bits of leaves and bugs and stuff came out ..it was funny at the time though.

that's same crappy smell comes out of my vents too, when i turn on the a/c. whyyyyyyyy?!?!?

If its right after an oil change like originally asked, it could be that they spilled some oil (just a few drops will do it, nothing to get anxious about) when you had it changed, and when the engine warms up, it heats the oil to the point that it smells like its burning. Thats why people mentioned that it goes away. If you smell this all the time, then you may have a leak onto something that is burning the oil the same way, but constantly. Have it looked at if so (you should have noticed oil leak drops in your garage or whereever)

Sounds like there needs to be a DIY oil change. :) It's not that hard to do it yourself as long as you got the tools. At any rate, I like what the last guy said.
