try this on your rims

Hey guys for the last couple of years I have been putting wax on my rims and let me tell you this helps againsst the clearcoat cracking and it also protects or helps protect the aluminium wheels from pitting. Oh and doesnt allow you to get water spot stains on your rims. and you kow you have to keep yor 20's clean ....OH ok 17's

Yeah wax is a good idea. It makes it alot easier to clean the break dust off of the wheel, and it also protects the rims against natures elements, like snow and salt.

Also, you can squirt the tire dressing right on the wheel...we used to do that @ the dealership I worked at, but I can see that wax would probably be the best...that is the way I do it now...

Tire Dressing. your kidding I would have never thought that. does it just make it shine cause I cant see where that would protect it ???

2Hottie 06-08-2002 10:49 PM

Yeah, it protects it, beads the water up and everything....but I say that wax would be better....just watch that you don't spray the stuff on your rotors (easier said than done)!

My bad, sorry dude, not paying attention here....I don't think it really protects the wheel, probably washes off just as soon as water hits it...just makes it shine real nice...

I see.... not a bad idea for showing off your ride. thanks for the heads up on that . I use Diamond 55 for waxing my rims its a polish not a wax so it wont remove the clearcoat it just makes everythig shiny and also beads the water nice.

Oh for tire shine try the stuff by Turtle Wax brand called Tire wax it shines really good and doesnt end up all over the side of your paint when your wheels start spining I love the stuff

civicdude 06-09-2002 05:40 PM

I wouldnt spray tire shine on my rims, just because Tire shine attracts dust and dirt. I'll stick with wax

tummyboy 06-09-2002 08:48 PM

Yeah I suppose tire shine would do that . have any of you used mineral spirits on your rims it works good

2Hottie 06-09-2002 10:06 PM

Yeah, thats true about the dirt element...I heard mineral spirits work well...but my buddy used gasoline sometimes on his rims (talk about a fire waiting to happen with all that heat from the brakes) and it seemed to do a good job, just a messy affair to get a rag soaked in gasoline...

What about for chrome rims?

civicdude 06-10-2002 12:08 PM

I would use wax on chrome rims too. I would first use chrome polish and then go over it with carnuba wax

tummyboy 06-11-2002 10:54 PM

GAS!!!! is your friend been inhaling those fumes a little to much . is it for the prupose fo removing the clearcoat ?

tummyboy 06-11-2002 10:55 PM

I agree with Civic dude on the chrome rims ... chrome is sometimes hard to take care of but if on the right car defintly worth it

eissal 06-12-2002 12:41 AM

meguiars hot rims is what I use...

2Hottie 06-12-2002 07:32 AM

Tummyboy, I say the same thing to my buddy when he uses the gas on his rims...like I said, that is a fire waiting to happen, would be funny to see that though!

Your right 2 hottie that would be funny as hell. but at the same time I would be slightly worried after I got ;up from rolling on the floor

CIVICMAN67 06-13-2002 08:35 AM

I wouldn' spray tire shine stufff on the wheels, talk about slinging off onto the car, that would be just messy IMO.

Hell yeah man...I take pleasure in the cynical things in life, I would die laughing if that happened!
