Detailing a carbon fiber hood

anyone know what kind of polish to use to detail the cf hood. Also I heard you have to wipe the hood dry after it rains, is this true??

Nope. I have a CF hood and it's rained many a time and nothing bad has happened to it. As for the polish, I don't know? I'de like to find out too though.

i never wipe my clean after it rains and as far as detailing I just wash it an wax it like the rest of the car

Just like Brian said...Just use a quality wax. Just make sure it doesnt have any cleaner in it. You dont want to put any abrasives on the hood...you will scratch it.

ttt. does anyone else have anything they do to clear it?

Since I posted I polished my CF hood. I used a rubbing compound and a polish and then a wax. Came out very nice. You have to use the rubbing compound first. Just rub and rub and rub. Of course, this is after you wash the hood. Just rub and rub and wet the rag you're using with water. I used one of those white cotten clothes they sell to dry a car with. Then I used lighter pressure towards the end to make the rubbing compound be a grit lower. Then out came the polish. Same process, but took a little longer. The rubbing compound makes the finish dull. The polish makes it shine. However, for the ultimate shine I used Mother's Carnauba Wax. It says that it's a mild polish as well, so I used it as such. I rubbed and rubbed and rubbed. I used a circular motion. Some people say not to, but after this step you shouldn't see any lines or scratches in the hood at all. Just a shine. Then just let the wax dry and rub it off again. Done. Worked for me. The hood was kinda dull before, but after I did this it shined it right up. I don't have clear coat on my hood though. Just the original gel coat. If I had clear coat I think I could make it shine even more. Maybe if I had a buffer. That would work wonders I bet.
