Where do i buy paint for this...? 1 Attachment(s) Alright so i just bought a type-r grill and i need to paint it satin silver to match my car, but i never painted anything before. Do i need to primer it first, base coat, then clear coat? If so how many coats of each and where do i buy the paint? |

If its plastic you will need a flexible surface primer, I prefer the SEM brand in an aerosol can. Then, like punkingcivic said, you can either go to that web site or a local auto paint shop and get the match paint in a can. Then you will need to purchase an aerosol clear coat made for cars. All in all it should cost you about 30 bucks, the paint is the expensive part. One can around here costs about 13 bucks. Thin coats are better and ensure more even coverage, let it dry about 15-20 minutes between coats because this isnt just a normal spray paint and if you dont let it dry before another coat, it will never dry. Just like with any spray paint you want to make sure the can stays mixed well and you spray in overlapping motions about 8-10 inches from the paint. I suggest letting it sit for about an hour before using the clear, and again, put 15-20 minutes between clear coats. |
sand it down 1000 grit sand paper tape off the diamond parts sandable primer 2 coats ssm paint ( i used honda arctic silver) 2 - 3 ccoats clearcoat - 2 coats less is more when ur spraying |
Pay a body shop $100 bucks and be done with it. |

Its much more satisfying to do things yourself though, at least i think so. I love DIY stuff. |

I like DYI as much as the next guy, but by the time he buys sandpaper, masking tape, plastic primer/adhesion promoter, pint of paint (the minimum amount a jobber sells), reducer and clear this kid is going to be over $80-100 and still not be guaranteed professional results. It's a grill, pay a shop $100 and be done with that. Save your DIY painting for your little brother's BMX. |
Maybe its because i have painting experience and all the equipment, i would use this opportunity to learn but its whatever works for you guys. |
