how to get dirt off safely w/o water...

ok i just washed/waxed the car, then it started pouring, then i had to pick up my parents at the airport an hour away.... grrr.....

anyways, now there's dirt all over the car, but the body (where there isnt a layer of dirt) is still smooth/waxy. anyway to simply wipe off the dirt without causing too many skratches/harm to thepaint? any special towels to use?

carry some quick detail spray and a mf towel.

um when you got dirty...you wash... too bad for the gloss you got

is that a good idea?

anymore? maybe i should just wash the damn thing... again...

the quick detailers are intended for light dirt, so if you have a significant amount on it then it will just make it look streaky, so you would need to wash it and use the detailer to maintain it after waxing. always use microfiber towels, they help prevent swirls.

California car duster, and then microfiber towel if there's still dirt left.

since when is water bad for the car???

gearbox 04-19-2005 11:17 PM

we don't wanna wash it every day. its easier to just dust it off.

Ed 04-19-2005 11:59 PM

Yeah, just common road dust is good to get off with a california duster, seems alright to me :)

I like to use the California Car Duster first. Then I use Poorboy's Spray and Wipe with an MF towel to give it that freshly washed look. If it's really dirty, just wash it.

I'm using that duster sometimes twice a day. I can't believe how much dust is around here.

mogwai 04-20-2005 01:07 AM

^^^Same here. After I wash my car, within an hour there's a thin layer of dust. I get a lot of polen as well.

try running your car through a car wash, then go home and spray it with a hose and dont wipe the excess water

thats when water is bad for the car, leaves water deposit / stains, very visible on darker colors

it rained on my car last night and now there are spots everywhere. I had just cleaned it before too. Wasn't dirty at all and the rain ruined it...maybe acid rain>??

soonercivic 04-21-2005 11:21 PM

its not the water that makes water spots. its the chemicals in the water. if you have hard water you will get more spots than if you have soft water. thats supposed to be the idea with that mr clean thing. it filters all the chemicals out that cause the water spots.
