Waxing Too Much?

Hey everyone, I have a simple question. Is there such thing as waxing your car too much? I am talking about once every 2 weeks just for some extra protection.

i'm no civicdude but i don't think there's anything wrong with too much wax as long as they're thin even layers IMO

Hey...There is nothing wrong with waxing too much. I wax my car once a week. I have never had a problem with any of my other cars paints and I have been doing this for years. If anything my car usually looks new even after 3 or 4 years and then some. My 94 civic that I sold in june looked like it just rolled out of the showroom and it was 7 years old with 84 ,000 miles. If it makes you happy and you are pleased with the results then go ahead and wax away. Just make sure that you arent using cleaner wax every week. If you use a quality carnuba wax like Meguires #26 or Meguires Gold, then you should be fine. If you dont use Meguires and you have other wax laying around that has carnuba in it, use that.

yea, I use the meguiars carnauba wax #3. One more thing, this weekend I am going to use a clay bar system to get the water marks off my car. What do I use to strip the wax off my car to do this, pamolive, or what? I heard that Meguiars makes something that will take the wax off the car, is that true? If so, could you tell me what it is? Thanks.

Theres no problem in waxing too much but I recommend once a month. Cuz its not necessary to wax your car every week or two

but wouldnt several layers of wax become dull after time?
dont know, thats why im asking :)

civicdude 01-21-2002 07:00 AM

no....Several layers of wax will not dull your paint. Like I said in my post before....It doesnt matter how much you wax your car. If it makes you happy and you are proud of the results then wax away.

Yes! there is a thing called OVERWAXING and that damages the paint. But this occurs if you wax it more than twice a week.
Do a reaserch on it!

I dont care how much research you do on the topic. You will not hurt your paint, I have been doing it for years and my car only looks better in the long run. During the spring and summer I wax my car twice a week, and I never have any problems. So if it makes you happy do it.

I hate washing my car because it takes to dang long. I try to do it once a week even if it is just going through a brushless car wash somewhere. I have waxed it once so far and that was fun (not). It was late when I started so it was dark by the time I took it off. missed a few spots and had to go back the next day and find them. hehe. I don't think it is a problem to wax it every week, but I know you won't see me doing it. :)

i usually wax every other week. unless its cold or raining. it doesnt take much time at all, about the same as washing and drying it.
