If it is on the paint a good coat of wax will help, and buffing the car will definitely help.

But keeping a good coat of wax on the car will help to prevent microscratches.

you can use a product called ScratchX by meguiars. Make sure the paint is clean and washed. Once you do the scratch X use a good paint cleaner, polish and then a few coats of wax. Its tedious but youll be pleased with the end result. It should lessen if not eliminate all the surface scratches

Would I do the same for swirl marks on the car? Especially on the black paint, it seems to pick up scratches when the wind blows dust around

buffing?

GrayGhost 02-08-2004 09:11 PM

Yeah, buffing will help.

Depending on the scratches, buffing with a cutting compound and cutting pad will help to take the scratches out of the paint, then follow up with a good wax and a polishing/finishing pad.

If you have no experience with a high speed buffer do not attempt this yourself, let someone who can properly use the buffer buff your car. You can quickly burn your paint and seriously damage your paint job.

I usually dont buff out a car because it has micro scratches on it. What I would do is wash it, clay it, glaze it and then wax it. The clay gets some of the scratches out, and the glaze gets the rest. I usually use 3M or Meguires Glaze. After I glaze I go over the car with carnuba wax....I use Mothers, Kit, or Gliptone.
