rust (with pic)

sorry, i'm back again with another question...

i've noticed a rust spot on my trunk (to the right of my license plate).
it's not big, probably a little bigger than a tip of a pen, but it will grow if i don't take care of it...
i don't think i keyed it in since the trunk lock is at least 10 cm away from the spot...

i did a search in the vehicle issues forum on rust and they said they went to the dealers to fix it under warranty?
has anyone been to the dealership with this problem? is it really covered? do they send you out elsewhere to a body shop or can they fix it there?

thanks for your help!

AzimuthX 04-17-2003 10:31 PM

Rust should be covered, check in manual (its in car :(). You drop off the car at the dealer and THEY send it out. Many dealers send their cars out to an affiliate body shop. They can not fix it at the dealer, must be at a bodyshop. Remember to ask for a rental car, this is the time to have fun while not damaging anything.

I believe that the new cars are specially designed to prevent rust thats why it is not necessary to get rust proofing because of the toxic chemicals removing this "special layer". Not sure, but got this from a very reliable source. Anyways got rust proofing for $600, how much did you pay for yours?

babychai 04-17-2003 10:43 PM

oh, i'd get a rental car no problem if it's covered...

i got a loaner (2 weeks) while i was waiting for my car cuz they were ordering it...

i'll try to take pics tm if i can go borrow a digi cam...:D

i need to go back to the dealers...too bad they're not open tomolo!

AzimuthX 04-17-2003 10:46 PM

Remind me than lol, we'll take some sexy shots of your car :)

iamfob 04-21-2003 10:15 PM

i gotta pay attention to mine then

get it fixed babychai

Pluto 04-22-2003 10:14 AM

I got some spots on my hood like that, I imagine caused by stone chips. Do you think that is covered under warranty?

iamfob 04-22-2003 03:24 PM

i dont know about the hood but give it a shot at the dealer

AzimuthX 04-22-2003 03:36 PM

Why don't you use hood deflector... it does save alot of chips because you can see a shit load of scratches on it... or better yet use the invisible tape thingy thats now a new trend.

babychai 04-22-2003 09:37 PM

went to the dealer's today..
they told me to wait a bit and see how the rust turns out....but then after they decided they were going to buff it out and touch it up...

but won't have time until i go back to school (in may)...
so hopefully when i get it fixed then i will take some pics and post it...

babychai 05-24-2003 07:30 PM

draven 05-24-2003 07:46 PM

they can't buff it out... it should still be rusting underneath... if anything, they have to sand the spot (and surrounding area) down and repaint the entire trunk...
