7th gen civic made where?

Is it true that the coupe is made in Ohio and the sedan in Canada? I know the new si is made in Great Britian. I also own a Toyota 4runner made in Japan, and i think the quality of the japanese made vehicles is better. Opinions?

avenger 03-30-2002 08:28 AM

yes the coupe and sedan are made in us and canada.

All toyota tacomas are made in fremont, california FYI

4RUNNER 03-30-2002 08:35 AM

Yes, but the runner is still made in japan. Any of you with older civics that were made in japan, do you think the quality went down when they stopped making them in japan?

crimsonfever 03-30-2002 08:49 AM

from what I've heard, all the Civics that are sold in Canada are made in Canada.... and I think some of the Civics for the States are made in Canada too..... that's just what I've heard....

aZnVoYCe 03-30-2002 08:52 AM

Yeah, that's true at least we have a JDM part, uh the transmission.

right on coupestylz. many of my clients are OEM suppliers to the honda plants. keep in mind that a lot of the components are still from japan, but assembled here in NA. honda japan has very strict quality standards that are enforced in the NA plants by japanese ex-pats top dogs. NA built civics are built the exact same way as civics built in the japanese plant. honda quality is a globalized initiative.

so i saw a post the other day or yesterday talking about the headlight sealant that is used by the US and JAP and
it said the one in Jap is way harder to get apart....so does that mean the sedan in canada uses the same blue
silicone to seal the lights.........

i wanna do my headlights but i'm getting a bunch of diffferent information......help me out

Some people might think that the cars are no longer good because they're not made in Japan. Others think it's the other way around. Personally I have had no problems whatsoever with my car other than rattles so I think Honda is doing a good job.

Yeah, the sedan is made about an hour or two from Toronto, Ontario Canada. The coupe is from Ohio.

It's sort of a myth/rumour that Japanese made vehicles are slightly better constructed. Although it may be hard to prove, since you aren't comparing identical vehicles. One vehicle that's made in Japan might be naturally designed better? Who knows. My Dad's an engineer and their company did some work for the Honda plant in Ontario (Civic Sedan, Odyssey, MDX) and the Alabama plant (forgot what they did there), and he said that it's so different from typical North American assembly line... it's very much Japanese influenced, and has typical Japanese traits.

For instance, Japanese believe that even senior managers should spend a week or two each year down on the assembly line. And this was the case, one week you could be putting together doors on the Civic with a Senior VP. It helps senior management understand the whole process better, afterall if the senior management just sits in offices all day, how can they implement changes without experience? My Dad also said that it is very egalitarian, there is no distinction between lower or upper employees, everybody wears the same white work uniforms with just your name on it, no titles. He also commented that all employees seemed content... notice that Japanese plants in North America never have union strikes like those plants from Chrysler, Ford, or GM? Japanese assembly lines are rated among the most efficient and with the highest level of quality.

But the cars that I've seen that are made in Japan: RSX, Maxima, Impreza... seem to be very solid and workmanship is excellent.

the engine and transmission are still from Japan..look on your window sticker..it tells you the % of where the parts come from
