Oldsmobile Cutlass?? now that one seems out of place.

FURY 03-19-2002 04:36 PM

haven't civics, accords and camries always been the top most stolen cars?

Mbow 03-19-2002 04:38 PM

I think so. The most popular cars are usually the most stolen as it is easy to sell the parts.

avenger 03-19-2002 04:40 PM

NickDaMans02Civic 03-19-2002 05:24 PM

Yep the civic is a popular steal, and Phoenix is horrible with auto theft. I heard they were #1 I don't how its looking in 2002 though on the theft in Phoenix probably worse.
Not a fan of Phoenix, LOL

Yeah usually the Camry and the Accord and all them make it to the top 10. I think the reason is that since so many of these cars are sold every year, they are just a lot of them on the street to steal.
As far as the Civic Si, I would say it's because so many of them are hooked up, that they attract thieves.

htowncivicEX 03-19-2002 06:09 PM

If you want to look at the % of cars stolen, rather than a raw # (of course the best selling cars will have a greater total # of thefts), look no further than the Type R. For a long period of time, there was at least one Type R owner on Honda-Tech.com that had his/her car stolen every week! Sheesh...

It's gotten to the point where just about every other Type R enthusiast you meet has a "... when I had my Type R stolen.." story. Pretty bad.

FURY 03-19-2002 06:10 PM

SERIOUSLY...

i know someone whose Type-R was stolen from his driveway...and like 3 other guys who had theirs stolen

sadboy916 03-19-2002 06:34 PM

another reason not to have a FAKE type r

avenger 03-19-2002 06:34 PM

01 and 02 civics arent as popular to jack, the parts arent swappable with the previous gens

AJ 03-19-2002 06:36 PM

That is way the insureance is do high on our rides.

bottlefed 03-19-2002 07:13 PM

these are unsuspicious cars that no matter what road you are on you will see at least one every minute. plus they are easy cars to replace parts and to "CHOP". then they seel them cause these cars have good resale value

NeoMagus 03-19-2002 08:31 PM

wahoooooooooooo

I have a 1999 !!! :)

but then again i still have the b series engine mr thieve wants....

jonavin 03-19-2002 08:34 PM

This list is a little different form the one I saw. On the other one, the Tiburon was #1 (stolen). The other cars on this list was the Civic Si, Integra, VW, etc.. mostly compacts.

oblivious9 03-19-2002 08:39 PM

I didn't see a ford focus on that list

KevinFWB 03-19-2002 10:59 PM

You also have to take into consideration that we have an ignition immobilizer and Accords have had them since '98. No more jamming a screwdriver into the ignition. In order to bypass the immobilizer you need a "high-tech" thief. Your average theif isn't gonna put that much effort into a stealing a car, there a just too many other cars to jack. They just find something else that is popular and easy to steal.

Maestro 03-19-2002 11:22 PM

This is the ONE and ONLY reason to buy a Hyunday

NickDaMans02Civic 03-20-2002 12:45 AM

Yeah I was hearing that before like 99 in the civics you could steal one with a butter knife? That was one of the rumors that were going around my school anyone else hear that? But yeah I feel a little better knowing that Honda has put a little more preventive anti-theft into the civic since it is a popular car to steal.

huyqvu 03-20-2002 07:28 AM

reason why the camry and accord are so popular, there's a lot of them running around and a lot of master keys for those cars around.

SoFlaCivic 03-20-2002 07:29 AM

The Taurus remains among the most purchased cars, like the Accord and Camry. It seems that these three are always vying for the top sales spot! This is probably why they accompany the Accord & Camry on the most stolen lists.

Lots of Accords, Camry's, & Tauruses sold, lots of Accord, Camry, & Taurus parts needed.

Same with the Civic.

n00dleboy 03-20-2002 07:42 AM

I'm surprised that the Echo wasn't on there. I swear if i wanted to jack that car
all i need to do is tip it and it'll fall over it's that skinny!

aldini 03-20-2002 10:19 AM

Well I think we'll be safe for a year or two.

Those cars are stolen because there is need for the parts. I don't know the numbers, but I'm sure that 2k1s and 2k2 civics sales are not even close to the number of older civics out there , therefore they won't be jacking us for some time.

As to the ignition security and the need for high-tech thiefs to steal our cars I think it's crap. There will be thiefs everywhere, and once every car has that security thiefs are not going to say "Awww f*Ck it, let's go rob a 7-eleven". They are simply going to go High-Tech. Sh1t, someday they might go jack our cars with palm pilots in their hands....

htowncivicEX 03-20-2002 01:34 PM

Sales of the 2k1 and 2k2 Civics have been quite brisk in the past couple of years. Just wait a few years, and I hate to say it but our cars might start to appear on the annual Most Stolen list.
