Please change your Cabin Filters!

Most people probably have done this or probably know that it would be good for you, but I chose to wait until I started to have trouble breathing until I finally bought these. I have 50K on my car and I just ordered 2 cabin filter replacements from HandAaccessories.com. They have great service and fast shipping. The total came out to be about $26 or something, well worth it if you're concerned about your health. After I put them in I noticed a big difference (cleaner breathing air, and not as much dust). Here is a pic to convince you.

If you haven't changed them and you have 40K miles on your car, now would be a good time. :rtfm:

where do they install?

Yes, there are two. Open up the glove box and take off the tabs so you can get behind it. Then one of them just pulls out, the other one is to the right of it you just slide out.

I found bugs and rocks on the top of mine... I guess that's what I've been breathing.

CarbonFly 09-12-2005 05:51 PM

I'm gonna have to do this. I have 65K on my car and I haven't changed them yet, haha.

streetglower 09-12-2005 06:18 PM

I changed mine at 95K miles and they were black. I really didnt notive a difference though.

genx_7 09-12-2005 06:40 PM

I changed mine at 40K and it was dirty and had pieces of leaves and pollen stuck in them.

Rufus 09-12-2005 06:45 PM

I have 80K on the clock and never changed them... But the car is barely 2 years old...However I live in AZ. Damn I do suck

sKwiD 09-12-2005 06:49 PM

Driving around CA where Smog is required, the air is bound to be dirty (Especially in LA). I guess it depends on where you live.

gotti 09-12-2005 06:58 PM

i dont use air conditioning or the fans at all.

four twenty 09-12-2005 07:36 PM

im on my second ex motor and ive done this twice already since i smoke herbies alot in my cabin or as i like to call it my "cockpit" lol. ya but im at 27k miles on my 2k2 vic and it makes a big difference in quality of ur air conditioner.

ramcosca 09-12-2005 08:17 PM

I've been planning on changing it for a few weeks now...
Cabin air smells like putrid milk... lol
It has 29k and 14 months now.
And, yes, I have logged all miles... and it was resting for 2 months and a half without mile-logging... lol

09-12-2005 08:34 PM

Can you vaccum them and put them back? Ok, ok, I'm cheap :o

MajinB 09-12-2005 08:45 PM

how much is it at honda? i know you need two. are they both the same?

gearbox 09-12-2005 08:51 PM

wow i've had mine for almost 50k, but I vacuum em at least once every 10k.

Al Gore FTW 09-12-2005 08:53 PM

i think thats what you are supposed to do

dre2600 09-12-2005 10:07 PM

I wouldn't trust a vacuum to remove things like mould or potentially stink-producing microrganisms from the filter.

Even if you don't use the fan/AC if you don't keep on internal circulation alone you still have air blowing through the vents, just from being forced into the ventilation system by the cars speed. Even w. the window open though, you get a lot of dust, now its just stuck all over the fabric of the seats instead. I drive w. my window down all the time and I notice if I smack the seats, a layer of dust comes off them all the time.

sKwiD 09-13-2005 02:07 AM

Nah, vacuuming isn't gonna do anything. There's still gonna be crap trapped between the filter. The $25 is worth it.

I asked at Honda and they said it would be like $20 something each! I called BS and bought them online.

jgrow44 09-13-2005 02:36 AM

they make a huge difference. i have an 02 with only 18000 miles and i just changed them about 500 miles ago. they were black with bugs and leaves and all kinds of crap on them. i also noticed that my a/c blows 100x colder.

tsyslick 09-13-2005 02:39 AM

yeah i changed mine around 50,000 coz i keep smelling something funny, actually smells like pea...changing it, was a big relief! :flush:

Only 18,000 miles on a 2002!

jgrow44 09-13-2005 04:13 AM

yeah, i don't really drive anywhere. i suck at being social.

7gencivicboi 09-13-2005 07:46 AM

same here

stlblues13 09-13-2005 08:10 AM

I changed mine at 50,000 and noticed a HUGE difference in how well the air conditioning and defroster worked. It's worth the investment.

exturbo6 09-13-2005 08:19 AM

well i got almost 70k havent chnaged that once. my pops has a 2k2 and he has 126k and he hasnt never changed that either. lol

robbclark1 09-13-2005 08:30 AM

at honda they are $25 a piece!! Fvck that. Get them off ebay or something.

I did mine about 5k ago and the AC smell i was getting is gone. It was a good thing. Change them, especially if you have allergies!

honda860 09-13-2005 09:26 AM

i only have 7000 on mine no need to worry yet

chanca 09-13-2005 09:27 AM

There are instructions on how to replace them in the Owner's Manual. However, the owner's manual only refer to one filter, in fact there are two as mentioned in an earlier post.

lui 09-13-2005 09:32 AM

 I took my filter at a gas station and cleaned it out by the air hose last week coz it looked dirty, might as well solve the problem :D

R1Style 09-13-2005 10:17 AM

fvck I wonder how much Honda will charge me for those filters... maybe I'll call and ask. I haven't changed mine and I'm at about 80k.

YUL 09-13-2005 10:19 AM

they are expensive. Better to buy them and install youself though.

SOHC 09-13-2005 10:20 AM

an ebay ad i just read said to change the filters every year!

gearbox 09-13-2005 10:20 AM

yup at least every 10k or one year.

Honda will charge you an arm and a leg. Seriously, the dealership I went to tried to charge me $100 for the filters and installation. Do it yourself, it will seriously take less than 5 minutes.

sweeteli99 09-13-2005 12:27 PM

mine were black too, i replaced one, i couldn't find where the other one was, but i read the thread, i'll change the other one this weekend, thanks :).

stinkypie 09-13-2005 01:00 PM

I paid $10.38 each at Honda for mine. List was around $25 though. I love working at the dealership!

sKwiD 09-13-2005 03:37 PM

Honda Price: $25 each

HandAaccessories.com $26 shipped for 2.

Dark_Pyro7 09-13-2005 03:45 PM

I will have to do this too. Anything to keep the inside smelling better. Not that it smells now, but who wants it to start?!

aznrocka 09-13-2005 03:55 PM

i think the manual recommends changing it every 30k miles

A03 09-13-2005 04:38 PM

I never it did it yet on my 03 almost at 45k. I saw your post and stopped to buy them today. Sure enough, mine are darkened and had little bug bits in them. there was even about 1/2 of a bee's rear section in the filter. Not sure what happened to the other 3/4 of the bee, but I'm sure it wasn't pleasant!!! hehe.

Thanks for the good advice, I hadn't read that part in the manual so I may have never known otherwise. Add one to your rep points.

sKwiD 09-14-2005 02:58 PM

cool, rep points. What do those do exactly again?

gizcivic 09-14-2005 03:13 PM

i got mine from dis auto for $26
I changed mine twice so far 38,ooomls on my car

They have no real effect as far as I can tell.

They make you get more little green dots, and it tells people that you are posting things that are useful. If someone is posting about useless garbage you can also give them a negative point and say that you dissaprove of what they posted. Just for show I guess.

gearbox 09-14-2005 05:18 PM

okay i finally picked up some napa gold/wix filters for mine $30 shipped but I know they're worth it.

I thougth that's what they did, but then I still have only one green dot... Hey guys, I need more green dots!
