Ford Rules?? Honda Sucks!!

I am a diehard fan of honda, and drive a honda myself. However, I got couple of friends that own Focuses. They are domestic freaks. Don't get me wrong besides my Vic I like chevys (not GM altogether just chevy). And my friends and I argue constanly which is better Ford or Honda. And he has brought up some good things, like: Heritage of a ford, They actually have v8's, they are cheaper, focus rs is faster that any civic, all this stuff just pissed me off. So i brought up some goods of the Civic, and Honda altogether. I mentioned dependability and fuel consumtion, and of course our outstaning 4 banger engines N/A that can produce waaaaaaaaaaaay more than same dsplacement Ford. I mean help me out here guys. Post what ya think.

jiggerachi 12-21-2004 08:19 AM

Have you ever driven a focus...not SVT but base model??

...point proven

jiggerachi 12-21-2004 08:20 AM

Oh yea...

SVT focus, while being far superior to base civics in handling & power, will get its ass handed to it by the other car in its direct competition/class...the RSX-S.

solar 12-21-2004 08:26 AM

The Focus has had many recalls and the fit and finish is horrible.

MSL 12-21-2004 08:37 AM

and they look like shit

Gangsta Dave 12-21-2004 08:40 AM

any ford four banger sucks a$$... I can't help but think of a ford escort when I see that stupid focus. tell your buds to come see you in 5 years with their cars and see how good it is running.. ha ha we all know it will be a POS and our hondas will be looking and running great!

JP375 12-21-2004 08:57 AM

I am no Ford fan, but I must give them some credit. They have stepped it up a notch in the last few years and are producing cars that are at least initially appealing. I would never buy one, but they do have a better warranty, better financiing and are probably overall a better use of your money. I don't think Hondas are really all that special anymore. They are banking too much on their name and history. The focus is probably one of the best compact cars that a domestic car company has ever produced. Don't knock it so much, it does have quite a few positive aspects. The civic is nice, but its nothing special.

CivicsRdBest 12-21-2004 09:04 AM

Resale value. People demand better cars, American cars are cheap because people don't want them.

Ford does pretty good too. They have 3 top selling vehicles in the top 10 list. The Explorer, the F-150, and the Taurus, but if Honda had a truck, it would be on there too. Honda already has 2 on that same list, the Accord and the Civic.

Honda prides itself on Fuel economy and innovation. On the engine side, Honda won 2 awards for great engines, the Accord hybrid engine and the RL's 300 hp 3.5L V6, the strongest naturally aspirated V6 in the world. Ford got one award for the 4.6L V8 in the new Mustang.

ctv 12-21-2004 09:04 AM

My focus ran 14.4 N/A in the 1/4

http://www.chris13.com/car3-28.jpg

having owned 4 hondas a 2 fords, i just bought my 4th civic

Ford may be good, but Honda is superior

although watch out for their new Duratec 2.0L engine
it was developed with Cosworth and mild bolts ons will get 200whp
and give anyone a run for their money.
jmo

diskreet 12-21-2004 09:06 AM

hondas have become for rational people. the average american is borderline retarted. we are fighting a losing battle. honda has the best benefits for the price...and if you want more in a car toyota's and even lexus' are much more reliable than their american competitors. we all know that but if people would like a big ugle ford badge over an unly chrome H then thats their descision, although a poor one.
Honda tops all other companies in customer satisfaction year after year after year and thats what matter's most: what real people really think.

12-21-2004 09:17 AM

Tell him, w/o Honda competition, Ford will not change and might still making Pintos for you and me, and him too

Gangsta Dave 12-21-2004 10:11 AM

I just dont' like american cars... the ones w/ four bangers... Trucks are a diff story for sure but I'm in for the reliability when it comes to buying cars. I doubt ford focus's are up there in reliability like any honda

SIinthesky 12-21-2004 10:14 AM

I built a focus zx3 for my best friend and it is pretty fast......It runs consistant high 13's without nitrous or a turbo/supercharger. Granted I fully built the motor but this car is really fast. It looks stock for the most part.....sleeper at its best

Gangsta Dave 12-21-2004 10:17 AM

cool... I personally wouldn't buy one and I do hate the fact that any time I pull up to any car period I know it could beat me no prob... Oh well though I'm still so glad I have a very reliable car... ha ha now watch it break down within a week after me saying that

bullseye 12-21-2004 10:18 AM

I drove an 04 Focus with the 2.3 /auto and an 05 with a 2.0 /manual. Both cars , even with 16" rims rode much better than my Civic with 14s. And both handle so much better. The Mazda derived engines were much smoother as well. The 115hp 1.7 of my Civic sounds like crap in compairison. The Focus , like the Civic has very good outward visibility.

But the build quality on the Focus seems to be well below the Civic . Resale and value retention are non-existent. The Civic's ergonomics are better. I just wish my Civic handled and rode like the Focus and also had a 2.0 engine. I would give up a few miles per gallon not to have listen to something that sounds like it is going to explode at anything over 5000 rpms! Hopefully the 8th Gen Civic will be a big leap forward instead of a mild make over.

exactly!

plus honda is a lil more expensive because the quality is much more better made to last longer
now five years from now if you both have the same cars lets see who has the more problems with???
i bet u that even the paint will skweak on the pos focus and you'll be happy with your civic taking it to the dealer only for oil changes and reguler maintenance!

you cant compare ford to honda honda>ford from any point of view

if they made such good v8 engines the 4.6 mustang should be able to do 460 hp with no forced induction
also they tried to copy hondas vtec ZTEC??? i mean they didnt found anything more original? c'mon

also in case that you havent heard in the uk the CTR over passes the sales of a focus rs plus the CTR is faster in the track (lap times ) i got this info from top gear magazine

SIinthesky 12-21-2004 10:24 AM

Actually Ztec isn't a copy of Vtec........Its the new of that engine series. There is no variable valve timing on the Ztec engine.

SIinthesky 12-21-2004 10:32 AM

But don't get me wrong......I would never own a focus.....HONDAS RULE

Gangsta Dave 12-21-2004 10:42 AM

I do like ford trucks but that is it. especially how they are all boxy but way off the subject.. I'll stop being a whore now!

JP375 12-21-2004 10:45 AM

I'm going to play devils advocate here....I think you all have a case of Honda fever. It seems that Honda owners are extremely loyal and feel as though their cars are the best. I can relate, I too suffer from this. Resale is only high because of this "aura" that Honda has built up around itself. Same reason a pair of Bose speakers sells for about 3 times what they are worth.Honda owners are the only idiots that will buy a car with a 36,000 mile warranty.(The lowest around). They are the only ones that will drive an incredibly slow car for a very small advantage in fuel consumption. They pay more money for less features. Yes the build quality is marginally better than a focus ,but the focus does many things well. Decent engine, very low emissions, snappy performance. All of us Honda owners pay more for less and then proclaim to the world that we are the smart ones. There are crappy domestic compacts, ie. Chevy Cavalier. That car is truly a crap heap. The focus deserves some respect. Its a decent car from a crappy company. Now given the above information......I love Honda, and I love Bose. They make me feel good, even if it is just all in my head.

doubledeuce2k2 12-21-2004 10:56 AM

my friend's focus caught on fire... i bet he would prefer a honda

SIinthesky 12-21-2004 11:19 AM

The thing I didnt mention about my friends 13sec focus is that it has mucho $$$$ invested into it.

Its on its 3rd (you heard right) engine....the newest one is fully built and its because it backfired on the dyno and fried the rings on it.....the first engine had a CAI that sucked up water and sent the #2 piston through the side of the block.

The built engine is nice though
10.5:1 JE forged pistons (3mm oversized)
Eagle connecting rods
Fully balanced rotating assembley(from pulley to the clutch)
Lightweight pulleys
Lightweight flywheel
2900lbs clutch
Comp stage 2 cams
custom made sheetmetal intake manifold
70mm TB
Mustang MAF sensor
Quife LSD
4.10 Final drive
Header
2.5" exhaust
Custom burnt chip
FAL fan
etc
etc
etc
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'm also playing the devil's advocate. I own a F150 Supercrew and it rocks. I own a '69 Mach 1 that runs 12.0 on a 40 shot and will run 11.5 now that the NHRA has lowered the roll bar requirement from 12.0 to 11.5.

I'm selling my Honda as soon as the new Mustang Cobras are out. A stock '05 Mustang runs in the 13s and with a few tweaks can dip halfway into the 12s. The Cobra will do even better.

The honda is a great commuter car (this is my second one), but it'll never match the thrill of spinning a V8 up to redline. Yeah, I could turn the civic into a 12 second car, but it wouldn't last very long between breakdowns. Give me an American V8 any day.

Sickboy 12-21-2004 11:40 AM

We had a rental focus a few months back... GREAT road manners for an econobox, 10x better than my civic. But, everything else was crap lol.

if you talk about vintage cars then fords are great no complains i would get a mach 1 if i had the money but arround here a restored one is pretty expensive also a camaro ss would be nice too

Civic_Racer9 12-21-2004 11:45 AM

have u seen any recent ford commercials?

at the very end they have a quote ""built for the road ahead""...the very frist time i heard that instantly i thought ""it must be a very short road"

Tipsy_AA 12-21-2004 11:49 AM

My dad used to be work at a car dealership and told me domestic cars are shit in quality.

hotrodcivic2004 12-21-2004 11:51 AM

FORD = Fixed Or Repaird Daily......honda is so much more reliable

ajhdragon 12-21-2004 11:51 AM

as people here stated a civc will out handle any focus expecially the older civics with the double wish bone. and civics can produce alot more hp than that of a ford i mean compare the 2.0 honda engine with the 2.0 ford engine. our engines are also some of the most reliable engines ever built. who cars about v8's when your comparing 4 bangers, honda is good at it. thats why there so friggin' popular.
