what's so smart about these cars?

CivicsRdBest 02-02-2004 08:13 PM

"Forbes.com rates the cars in terms of safety and affordabilty"

They're supposed to be vehicles that are safe and affordable for parents to give to their teenage children.

cryption 02-02-2004 08:13 PM

and the IS300 is a bit expensive for teens ... wich is generally the first car. Man i wish my first car was an IS300

CivicXLR8ion 02-02-2004 08:15 PM

greynotch 02-02-2004 08:25 PM

stl01civic 02-02-2004 09:46 PM

sCoTtEh 02-02-2004 10:15 PM

3. 2004 Subaru Imprezza Wagon

^ i wish i woulda got that one =/

YUL 02-02-2004 10:17 PM

man....what kind of 'teen' can afford any 2004 model???

I'd personally be embarrased if I had to drive around in a luxury vehicle that my parents bought me...

come to think about it...I would never buy a luxury car for myself either even if i could afford it.

AzNDrivn 02-02-2004 11:17 PM

Im 16 and i got a 2004 civic coupe Lx, dealer wanted 19g with tax and everything, i talked him down to 16g. Saved me some money :). I have a friend in school who drives an escalade... thats how rich his damn family is

kyle4583 02-02-2004 11:24 PM

your 16...last time i checked you have to be an adult to buy the car. if i were a salesman, i dont think i would be paying to much attention to a 16 yr old

Mikeds122 02-02-2004 11:29 PM

These are all cars which a teenager cannot afford (without help of parents anyway) ... some more realistic cars, and I think better choices for a teenager, would be:

'92+ Honda Prelude
'94+ Acura Integra
'90+ Nissan 240sx
'90+ Nissan 300zx
'90+ Toyota Celica
'91+ Toyota MR2
'86+ Toyota Supra

These cars are sporty, reliable and somewhat economical at the same time.. not to mention a fraction of the price of those brand new cars listed above. In my opinion, thats Perfect for a teenager.

I'm 17 right now and saving up for my first car.. my parents definatly will not buy me my own car.. at most maybe throw in 3 or 4 thousand. My top choices are a 93+ Prelude SRV or a 94+ Integra GSR. :D

kyle4583 02-02-2004 11:32 PM

inexpericenced drivers should not be behind the wheel of fast cars. give them something a little heavier.

civicmorph 02-02-2004 11:38 PM

^^so they can smash into ppl that drive civics? (us) lol

kyle4583 02-02-2004 11:42 PM

no so they can learn, not go out and fvck around in these cars and hurt others. just because you have a drivers license doesnt mean you know everything. it takes time and experience thats all. i just think you should start easy when your a new driver.

The car is under my mom's name but i pay for everything. I've been driving for over a year and half and i believe im a pretty experienced driver, i never even got close of gettin into a wreck yet.

kyle4583 02-02-2004 11:53 PM

i dunno i just find it hard to believe there would be a 16 year old haggling the price of a new car...sorry.

civicmorph 02-03-2004 12:12 AM

anything's possible, I wouldn't start stereotyping now, but I always think smaller slower cars are better for younger ppl cause that way they don't drive around like buffalos in big trucks or vans or suvs. I've seen too many of those

I agree...I went from 4 cyl --> 6 cyl --> 8 cyl...and now back to 4 :D Seriously, I'm glad I didn't have a fast car as my first, I could have gotten into trouble :help:

Yeah, it sure does...that SMALL domestic cars are pieces of shit. The only fun domestics are the ones with 270+ HP stock

Mikeds122 02-03-2004 12:18 AM

/\ haha well said.

Jo_Boo 02-03-2004 12:20 AM

Your not that experienced until you have had at least one close call. Im talking about handling unexpected situations.

Sorry but I dont think that I have met any 16 yo drivers that I would call "experienced". I have 8 years on you and I still encounter things now and then that make me think, or adjust how I approach certain situations.

Anyhow good for you in talking down the salesman.

im not talking about huge suvs or pickups. i mean a good solid sedan. i started with a dodge dynasty. it was a couch on wheels and i felt safe in it.

OMG, are you KIDDING?! Your haggle price was $16,000??? LOL! It's nice to see that you got involved in the buying proces, but that's what you SHOULD have paid, not some craptacular achievement.

No one pays MSRP, you should expect to pay $500 over invoice AT MOST, or maybe $200 over invoice at the higher volume dealers. We walked out paying $17,1xx I believe for our 2004 EX coupe, and that's in New Jersey after 6% sales tax.

Of course cars that are in high demand and short supply may be even over MSRP as a general rule, but I can't believe I just read that a dealer wanted nearly $20,000 for an LX even with taxes, tags, fees etc. Wow. :hithead:

NottaCivic 02-03-2004 12:25 AM

My first car was a 1994 Camaro Z28 with 275 HP stock. Luckily I'm not like those idiots that just get out there and hit the pedal. I knew everything about the car before I got it, and learned how to drive it slowly. Over a course of 2 years I learned how to drive something that fast before I even considered flooring it (although I did hit the pedal a couple times :D ) That's the way to do it though, learn slow, don't rush it. Too bad that car was totaled on my way to Graduation!! (Not my fault BTW)
