Who's VIN# Beings With a J? I asked my Honda dealership regarding a part and they told me.. if your VIN # starts with a "J" you need so n so. Who's VIN# starts with a J? What are you driving? 2002? 2003? 2001? Thanks! |
No body that owns a civic here has a vin no. that begins with a J. It designates a car that was built in Japan. Ours is represented with a H implying U.S. build. |
Nope??: no J with 7thgen :( sorry our cars are built in Canada |
Only the RSX |
^ what they said. J means it's made in Japan. Integs have J's I think including the new Integ... RSX. |

I swear the same dealership told me they need my vin number I asked them why? I bought it here, its a USDM EX, I got mad I also told them that they dont make coupes in japan and its not a SI model cuz I have EX?!?! I love the weird look on their faces as I told them that. They are just retarded. And I also bought my car there. |

well.. sedans are exceptions... oh.. and post the first few digits of ur vin... please... mines 2hges2 |
mine is 1hgem2 03 vic ex coupe |
1hgem2 01 EX coupe |
My '02 seden vin starts with the "J". 80% of the vehicle is built or manufactured in Japan (the dealership sticker told me) Although the vins start differently, they are all the same Civics from Honda. :_bow: First 5 digits are "JHMES" |
I was told by my dealer that sedans = from japan, and coupes = from US. |

Originally posted by BlueFlame Umm, sorry to burst your bubble, but not all civics in the US are built here. A lot of them are shipped over from Japan. That's where mine was built. I actually asked before I bought it where it came from. |
Originally posted by nookiemonster Damn pass the ganja. Just because your dealer told you it was built in Japan, you believe them? Look at your VIN. If it starts with the J, then obviously it was built in Japan. Your engine and tranny, I believe, were built in Japan, shipped over here, and then your entire car was built here. IF you have a 7th gen. You aint bursting nobody's bubble buddy. My civic was built in Japan, & I did check the vid # when I bought it - it starts with a J. So the entire car was built over there, not just the engine. VID#: JHMES165X1S****** See I actually try to know what I'm talking about BEFORE I post ... Oh, and IF *I* have a 7th gen? Sorry but you're the one who seems more interested in Mazda than Honda's, so don't talk to me about what car I own. |
Well that's freakin good for you, but I DO OWN A CIVIC by the way... http://www.mazdamp3.com/members/shaolin/civic3.jpg |
Right on man - Sorry I got so hostile. I was already in a bad mood because someone hit my car over the weekend and caused $1000 worth of damage & I have no idea who it was. Anyways, those rims look kinda cool - you got plans to do anything else? Maybe tint the windows ... |
It's all good man...I didn't mean to come off arrogant either...but as for the civic...well, I dunno...right now it's mainly a commuter car. I'd like to tint the windows, but then I'd rather spend that money on the Mazdaspeed, so who we'll see, maybe I'll get some spare cash to do it. |
the reason they ask for the VIN because it tells them info about your car as where it was made what engine and trans is in it if its a 2 door or 4 door if it has Cali emissions or 49 state emissions etc. mine is 1HGEM2 1= US built H= Honda EM2= coupe 2= Canadian J= Japan ES2= sedan |
well I Know mine was made In Alliston Ontario Canada cause I had to wait 2 weeks to get my car from the dealership cause it was coming from the factory in Ontario. and my vin# is 1HGEM2........ |
btw. its a 2002 lx coupe |
i do i do my crx was built in japan and the old hatch was too ;) |
Re: Who's VIN# Beings With a J? My VIN also starts with a J i searched the internet and my VIN starts with JHMES as far as i got till now is that: J means Japan H means Honda M means Passenger Car, Made in Japan. but that's all, i'm having a problem registering with Honda online resources or even getting any info on what my engine code is. my car is a Civic LXi 1.5L sedan year model 2001 please help. Nalbi. |
Re: Who's VIN# Beings With a J? Your engine code should be stamped/molded/formed into the engine block right in front of engine. ( should include a 1 & 5 ? ) I remember seeing some Japan built Corollas when I was car shopping. I did not know any Civics were made there. The window factory sticker should tell where the components came from. |
Re: Who's VIN# Beings With a J? !!!if You Want To Put This To Rest, Read My Post!!! On The Inside Of The Driver's Door Jam (b Pillar), There Is A White Sticker With Black Writing. It Is Easily Identified Because It Has The Vehicle's Vin Number Right Above A Bar Code. If You Look At The Top Of This Sticker, It Shows Where Your Vehcile Was Made. Mine Says: Mfd. By Honda Of Canada Mfg. 09/'01 A Division Of Honda Canada Inc. Canada Gvwr 3395lbs Gawr F 1765lbs R 1665 This Vehicle Conforms To All Applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety, Bumper, And Theft Prevention Standards In Effect On The Date Of Manufacture Shown Above V.i.n. 2hges1*********** ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Passenger Car Therefore, I Know My Car Was Manufactured In Canada By Honda Of Canada, Inc. ANYONE READING THIS WITH A JAPAN BUILT CAR HAVE A CAMERA? TAKE A PIC OF THIS STICKER TO PUT IT TO REST.... |
Re: Who's VIN# Beings With a J? 17 digit vin prefix, first character: J = Suzuka, Japan 1 = Honda of America Manufacturing, East Liberty, Ohio, USA. 2 = Honda of Canada Manufacturing, Alliston, Ontario, Canada. |
Re: Who's VIN# Beings With a J? I was the 13th person replyed to this thread. It's kinda weired to see my own writing 3 years from now. I feel like that was just yesterday. Yes, put the VIN thing to rest, put this whole thing to rest. Doesn't matter where your car was made, it's a Honda. There is nothing major needed to be repaired so far. |
