After a show car is registered and displayed, it will be reviewed by a panel of judges through out the day. Winners will be presented their trophies and prizes during the awards ceremony. IV) SHOULD I COMPETE? 1)Car Show If you want everyone to see your car, enter it into the car show! Audience parking will be far from the action. 2) Bracket Racing- Why YOU should race… EVERYONE has a chance to win no matter how fast or slow their car/bike is!!! Bracket racing, or handicap racing, works as follows… Practice runs are made in order to get a feel for how fast the car/bike will run. For example: say you make three runs and they average 12.50 seconds. You may choose that as your dial in time and shoe polish that time on your window. You will be paired against another vehicle, faster or slower. The slower vehicle gets a head start determined by the dial in time. Say the other vehicle dials in at 13.00…he'll get a .50 head start. The object is to beat your competitor to the finish line without going quicker than your dial in time. If you "break out", or go quicker than your dial in, you lose, unless your opponent breaks out worse than you or red-lights (goes before the light turns green) or crosses the centerline (drives into the competitors lane). Bracket racing pits driver against driver, with little regard for how fast the car/bike is. If you think you are a good driver, enter this category! It is the driver's responsibility to make sure the dial in time on your vehicle is correct. If you stage with the wrong time, there will be nothing we can do. If your dial in is wrong, alert the starting line official BEFORE you light the top bulb on the tree. Bracket cl***** work off a full, sportsman tree (starting light), or a ".500" tree. The tree will light up like this… yellow, yellow, yellow (hold), green (GO!) 3)Heads up racing Heads up racing works as follow… Both racers start off at the same time. The first car to the finish line wins. As simple as that! So if you think you have a fast car enter this category! The Heads-Up Class works off a Pro-tree, or a “.400” tree. The tree will light up like this… yellow (hold), green (GO!) V) BE KNOWN!!! Arrangements have been made at State Capitol Dragway to have every racer get recognition through the PA system. Every time a racer stages up during eliminations they will have their name announced. Not only will they have their name announced, but also the name of their sponsor. If you are not sponsored by a business, go out and look for a sponsor. If you can't get a sponsor, write on the registration card who you are representing. It can be your high school, nationality, town, group of friends, or whoever! (Examples - slicc, vsa, N.O., mom, lsu, etc.) This is designed to get everyone into the competition, not just the racers. So audience, be sure to back up your racer with a LOUD cheer every time they stage up. Getting recognition also goes for all car show, break dance, and SPL contestants. If you do not want recognition over the loud speakers, write ANONYMOUS next to your name on the registration card. For you pranksters out there… don't even think about registering under fake names like Bill Clinton, Lisa Kubo, or Ben Dover. VI) SPONSORS SPONSORS SPONSORS!!!
