Looking to switch to HIDs
 

hey guys, so i have a 2005 civic sedan se (i think a dx in USA) and i was looking into switching my headlights into hid. Would these be a good purchase for me?

Will there be anything else i would need to buy? will these fit into my car with no problems?

Those are reflector housings, just like the stock ones. You need projector housings for HIDs.

If you wanna go HID, I'd definitely look into doing it "proper" (i.e. retrofit). You won't blind people, and you'll most likely spend less money in the long run

thanks for the replies guys, but i dont wanna do the retrofit...given that i know nothing about this stuff can you guys help me find what i would need to buy by providing me links to websites? :)

the reason I brought up the retrofit is because every time I see someone on the road with aftermarket HIDs in reflector housings, I wanna go up to their window and punch them in the face. Getting blinded by that shit is no fun, and I see it way more often than I'd really like to.

You're on the right track now. As mentioned before, you need projector housings. As far as light output, it will basically be the same with the oem bulbs. You will still need to purchase a HID kit

and which adapter plate and wire harness would i need to get?

yup it should, ive seen many members use them in 05 lights. the lo beam spot is 9006, and i believe they do have adapter plates in that size. same goes for wire harness. in canada you have drl, but it uses the separate hi beam and should work like normal. if you want the hid hi beam to work properly, you need to tap the + and - wires from the projector to the stock hi beam halogen bulb wires. that way you will have both halogen and hid hi beam.

would i still be able to retrofit it? and will the light output still be the same as if i was to do it in the stock lights?

yes exactly. i would look on ebay tho they are usually under $100 and they have all clear too instead of black. up to you on the color tho. the only bad thing about the aftermarkets is poor output from the reflector, which wont matter since you are installing projectors.

possibly. ive seen it done, a few retrofit companies like hidillusionz.com has done em but the metal back is really hard to cut. maybe with a hole saw or dremel.

I have done a retrofit on my 2004 civic from the retrofitsource. i have the morimoto h1 projector with 5000k bulbs and they are beautiful. i used to have 4300k hid in my stock reflector. they werent bad at all but i wanted a clean light. i would suggest doing a retrofit. go to trs.com and they will tell you how. and why would you want to put projectors in OEM fogs. the beam on the OEM fogs are perfect and is made of high quality glass.

yea i have decided to do a retrofit with the mini's but i wanted to know if the fx-r stage 3 kit would fit and i might consider it if it does.
would you happen to have pics of your retrofit?

fx-r is a much better projector but requires lots of custom modding to fit. the mini just pops in using the stock bulb hole. mini h1 is good too, still better than halogen.

Wow expensive. Just take out the stock Halogens from the stock headlights and put in two 55 watt HID systems from DDMtuning, one 9005 one 9006, about $96 shipped w/lifetime warranty. You'll be blinding people though, some people don't like that and get jealous/mad. But I've only been flashed a few times with mine in the stock reflective housings after 1.5 years of having them. Some reflective housings are worse than others though.
