Poormans swap or b16a

Ok quick question what will I get best power and performance out of? B18 bottom with a b16a head or a straight b16a? If it matters I have a b16 hydro trans. In what ever motor I put in I'm also replacing rods for high compression, any recommendations on rods to use would be appreciated as well. I'm going all motor no turbo or sc

The 1.6 head on the 1.8 block raises your compression. How much, I don't know.
Raising the compression ratio makes power, but it will probably need high octane gas.

Rods alone don't make compression. You use high strength rods for higher RPM.

An automatic trans will still shift just before the redline RPM it was designed for.
It won't let you use a higher redline without modifications.
If you built the engine to spin 9000 RPM, the trans will still shift at 5800 without mods (or whatever RPM it was designed to shift at).

I assumed this meant an automatic trans.
Hydraulically controlled, as opposed to electronically controlled.
