Transmission Range Sensor and Engine Coolant Temp Circuit codes on 2000 Civic DX Hey, I just bought a 2000 Civic DX, D16Y7, very high miles, 232,000 and a newer transmission was put in a couple years ago (have some receipts for some of the work done). The day after I bought it the check engine light came on. Went to Advance Auto Parts to get the codes scanned, I got: P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction P0706 pretty much the same thing P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit (came up twice) First I wanted to figure out the transmission thing, so I did some research and it seemed like a simple matter of installing a new Transmission Range Sensor/Gear Position Switch, but then I started seeing people saying that P0705 isn't a valid code for some civics from this time and the code reader "can't be trusted". I haven't even really gotten around to looking into the codes for the engine coolant yet, but I do know the car had a new thermostat put in not long ago. Can anyone give me some insight on this? Are P0705 and P0706 valid codes for my car and do they mean I need to replace my TRS? What about P0116? |
Re: Transmission Range Sensor and Engine Coolant Temp Circuit codes on 2000 Civic DX P0705 and P0706, neither codes are valid for a 2000 Civic. P0116 came out of the same code reader? You sure you want to trust it? Likely a bad ECT sensor if the code is accurate, but is the code accurate? Do you trust it? Try a few other code readers first.. Go to different parts stores. |
Re: Transmission Range Sensor and Engine Coolant Temp Circuit codes on 2000 Civic DX Thanks for the input. I went to a different place and the scanner only came up with p0116, coolant sensor. |
