2000 Civic LX Sedan-Can't Get Door Open My rear driver side passenger door wouldn't open from outside. Dealer said it was a clip and wanted like $200 to do the job. For the time being, I figured, I'll just open the door from the inside. Fast forward a few weeks and my kid is in the back seat, so I decide to flick the child safety latch to prevent opening the door from the inside and voila! I haven't seen that door open for 6 months! Here's my question, if I remove the hing bolts, accessible when the driver side front door is open, can I take the whole door off and disengage the child safety latch. Question 2, how hard is it to replace the clip so I can open from the outside as well. Any how to's on that process. Much thanks. Johnnyrooskie |

Can you bend up a coat hanger and work it in to reach and undo the kiddie lockout button on the stuck door? It might require taking the door panel off from inside the car, to reach the linkage for the outer handle. Not fun at all. Maybe one could reach the linkage through the window slot. I have no idea what there is to work with on your particular car, but these were my immediate thoughts.. HTH |
Re: 2000 Civic LX Sedan-Can't Get Door Open You can rip off the side panel and try that way, but if you have the safety latch on then you pretty much screwed. If you have enough to buy another side panel to replace the one you are about to break and tear apart then do it. I did the same thing and I had to rip it out. Craigslist and junk yards sell them for under 40$. |
