A gas cap might not solve your problem.
Not all EVAP codes are caused by a gas cap.

There are several other things that can cause EVAP codes if that is, in fact, what you are chasing.

-----------------------------------

If you are waiting for the idiot light to go out on its own, it may take a few days IF the problem is actually fixed.
If it isn't fixed, the light won't go out at all no matter how much you drive it.

The PCM must see a couple of "drive cycles" in which its self diagnostic function runs and passes.
It is usually faster to just have your local ChinaZone turn the idiot light off.

Thanks, we think it has to be the cap and were told by a shop that since it was not a Honda brand it was most likely. He got a cheap generic, do you thk a named brand would work like the factory one?

Anyway, is there a way WE can erase the code w/o going to Autozone?

Thanks, George

Yes, non-factory caps can be "iffy", but some do work just fine. Sometimes I steal the cap from a car with no problems to test with, but we usually keep a brand new one on the shelf.

Disconnect the battery for several minutes and then reconnect, then see if the idiot light remains off after you start the car. IF it stays off, then you can assume the memory got cleared.

You may need to do an idle learn procedure after having the battery disconnected too.

What code does it have?
