98 civic EX problems

1998 civic EX. D16Y8. 5 speed. I don't know much about cars. I'm still learning. My civic has a few problems and I'm not sure what is causing them. It idles really low 90% of the time. (usually between i'd say about 600 to maybe 200 rpms?) however it rarely dies on me. It's died maybe twice. I always thought cars are supposed to idle around 1000? Sometimes when i'm coming to a stop I press in the clutch and pull it out of gear and then it idles up to about 2000rpms until i've come to a complete stop. Sometimes 2nd and 3rd gear will grind. Just a slight grind.. but it doesn't stop it from going into the gears. The person I bought it off of had vtec wired to a switch.. (which i hate) not sure how to go about rewiring it normally. I also had the camshaft replaced a few months ago and found out one of the bolts that holds down the rocker arm assembly won't torque down because the hole is stripped out. What problems would that cause and how would I get that fixed?

My 98 does the same thing when it comes to the low idle. It has never died and there is no codes showing. As for the transmission it sounds like the synchronizers to me. How many miles is on your car?

Did the stripped bolt in the rocker arm assembly have anything to do with your problem? What ever happened to your car? How'd you fix it?
