96 dx 5spd first and reverse grind Hi All, So as the title says, my 5spd tranny is having a grinding problem. Sometimes when I take off in reverse I hear a light grinding sound, usually if Im putting more force on the car like backing up in the snow or up a slight incline , and yes the car is at a 100% dead stop when i put the car in reverse. I have also tried putting it in first or fourth gear before i put it in reverse. Also it does the same thing in first once in a while, as soon as I let the clutch out to take off I hear the same light grinding sound. It has been doing this for a few months on and off and im worried it is getting worse. Like I said it is a light grind, much softer then an unmeshed gear grind. I have looked everywhere online, and have not heard of this exact problem. Thanks Some car info: 96 civic dx 1.6 5spd 200,000 changed the mtf about 800 miles ago with honda mtf no other gears grind at all.. |
Re: 96 dx 5spd first and reverse grind check for wear in the shifter bushings also check and lube the clutch slave cylinder, and cv axles see if the boots are torn or if the cv axles have play in them. Short of that grab a sound or video clip of it and I will try to help you troubleshoot it. |
Re: 96 dx 5spd first and reverse grind mines make a grinding noise and its been getting louder even at idle i changed throw out bearing and flywheel bearing and a new clutch heres a vid as the grind can be heard the only gear that i dont hear it on is 5th either the road noise as taken over or i have a bad bearing in the tranny somwhere i will wait till summer to take it off apart but heres a vid see if urs are similiar to mines and yes mines does make the sound at reverse also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvxcIPTscqg |
Re: 96 dx 5spd first and reverse grind its more like a whirrrring noise |
Re: 96 dx 5spd first and reverse grind try switching out to redline tranny oil, the oil that is in there now may be to thin and not lubing enough if the bearings are getting a little weak. you may have a slightly bent shift fork causing the issue, but I would give the redline a shot first see if that helps. |
