can two 8inch in a bandpass box sound good?

I was wondering why people make these

Is an 8 inch sub big enough to produce any kind of base??

ever seen a 8w7? little speakers will surprise you. for example, the DD 9510 hitting 169.8. In English, a single 10 being louder than any bass you have ever heard in your entire life.

Its all in the install.

and bandpass... why do you want bandpass?

I have a ported 8w3, I like it a lot. it take up so little room in my trunk.

8's are nice...bandpass is not....please stay away.

both RF and JL make 6.5" subs. I have heard the JL in two bmw Z3's and it works nice. My buddy at work has two of the RF 6.5's in his wife accord and they get down..i was surprised....i thought it was a single 10  so in closing, yes 8's can sound very nice and so can smaller speakers....its all in the install.

its all in teh install....

but bandpass is not nice?

its completely possible to have an SQ oriented bandpass box. the probability anyone is willing to put the time into it is pretty small.

but that doesnt mean that bandpass doesnt have the ability to be nice!

Have you guys heard the clip of the guys that put 2 6.5" speakers in a massive box and made them sound like 2 awesome 12"s?

Little subs can sound huge if their in optimum air space. the bandpass is something that some people like and others don't. all depends on the install and the taste of the person.

IMO they sound nice and tight.

For it to sound good in a bandpass enclosure, that enclosure would have to be custom built according to the t/s parameters of the sub(s) and taking the cars cabin gain into cosideration. it can work quite nicely.

8's are still valid functional subwoofers. they generally have great transient response and require very small enclosures. It's all in the desogn of the particular woofer and the enclosure you put it in. There some's 8's out there that can in the right enclosure outdo alot of 15's on the market. like the 8w7 and Kicker 8L7. In a small low tuned ported enclosure with a good amount of power they'll suprise you. But don't expect your kidneys to rattle. But they'll make all the noise you need for a good balanced system.

Cheers

For a bandpass enclosure to sound good, it has to be designed around the sub... for a killer bandpass setup that sounds nice, has a good frequency range and the ability to get crazy loud, check out the PM setup from http://www.thebassmechanic.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

Kevin is a real cool guy and will be more than willing to work with you and hook you up! Just tell him I sent you...

A local member of clubrsx hit a 146 with the dual 10" PM and only like 300W on each, or somethin along them lines. Make sure to check out his forum as well.
