Can The alternator handle this?

OK I am gonna run two 300 watt amps and a 600 watt amp. So do I absolutly have to change the altornator or get a cap? just wondering.
Thanks for your imput.

300 watt peak?..

what amps..?..

3dStylz 07-22-2002 03:56 PM

ya those are all peaks so 300 watt jensen amp another 300 watt jensen amp and then a 600 watt kenwood amp probably realistically only pulls rms like 120 on the jensen and 300 on the kenwood

your alternator will laugh at you and ask for more .. yeah it can take that NO PROBLEM

I'm going to run 1000 watts outta my system once I install it this week . . . I'm getting a 1 farad cap and probably a deep-cycle battery. Will I need to replace my alternator too?

Phatboy 09-03-2002 09:20 PM

I'm currently running a Memphis 1000D Amplifier, with no caps, no deep cycle battery... sure my lights, interior lights will dim every time i thump on by, but no altenator/battery problems as of yet. My Amp is currently running 1100watts on 1ohm.... :_please:

sorry for such a late response on the thread, i tend to lack realization of the actual dates these things are posted on, my retailer told me my amplifier "can" draw up to 90amps, I had to buy a breaker! 100amp breaker...

DImming isn;t necessarily a serious problem..anytime you get voltage drop of more than 2 volts..your lights will dim.. not from 13.8- a momentary 11.8 volts is not biggy during hard bass hits..If your running a 1000 watt class D sub amp..and another 2-300 watts of Class A/B Power and love to crank it..you may kill your battery or fry your ECU..It's not likely to happen, But it is a possibility. So the risks are up to you..
