Coupe Rear Speakers

Last year I got all new speakers for my car. They are Alpines. They do hit the crossbars for the trunk and this has become very annoying recently. Anyone have any suggestions for good slim speakers that will fit back there?

Do you have a spacer in? The rear will fit a .5 inch spacer IF you dremel the lip on the underside of the deck (the lip that surrounds the speaker). You will also only be able to get 3 screws in per speaker, but as long as they're tight, it won't rattle. I got infinity references for my rear speakers but I had to do everything I listed above. I don't think you can really get any decent speakers for the coupe even if they are shallow. If they're shallow, I'm assuming the magnet has a bigger diameter and the trunk spring is like -----\___/----- so even if it's shallow enough it might still be too wide.

Yeah you might want to try spacing it somehow. I have some Boston's with huge magnets and when I put them in they hit the trunk spring really bad so I just took a stack of washers and used it to space the speaker up high enough to clear. It didn't involve any dremeling and has worked great so far

Should look into making a spacer, or buying a speaker mounting bracket

A spacer? So the speaker wouldn't sit as far into the trunk? Wouldn't it hit the speaker grill of the rear deck then?

There's actually a bit of play there. You can sit the speaker up a little higher and still have it clear the top plastic grill.

Like I said... there is room for about a .5 in spacer. However, I found that with the spacer I had to trim off the lip since I couldn't get the deck into place over the speaker.

So what would be the best way to go about this? I heard someone just put washers on the screw that hold it in. Also building a spacer. Is there a DIY on the spacer?

Mine came with a spacer. You can also buy them or make your own. Look on youtube how to make a speaker spacer. Pretty much you just trace the speaker on something, cut it out, and drill holes in it. If you don't want to do that then you could try washers, but they might rattle.

I might want to throw in there using some cheap wood as spacers OR what I've done is to get a sheet of steel, trace out the speaker holes for the existing space and then cut it with a dremmel or even tin snips. Now from reading the previous posts, you need approx 1/2 in spacer? If that is correct why not make the spacer out of rigid foam AND use the sheet of thin metal as the "mount" which to sit the speaker in. Lastly, you would need screws/bolts long enough to fit it to the factory mounting points. I've used the metal plate method before and it works great as long as you tighten the mounting point enough to prevent rattling.
