Fake alarm LED

Whats the best option at approaching this. I've seen a few sites that used a blinking LED but I'm not sure how to wire it up to only blink when the car is off.

Re: Fake alarm LED

why not just have it blink all the time?

Or:

Or:

You could use a relay. Not sure exactly how to hook it up myself, but relays have a normally open wiring option and a normally closed. If you wire it to normally closed and to your 12v accessory it should turn off when the car is on and turn on when the car is off. At least thats how I understand it.

Or see this technique:

Re: Fake alarm LED

well you could put it on a switch and turn it on when you leave the car. just an idea. otherwise you prolly need to use a negative switched relay or something and tie to the ignition.

alarms are cheap, just install a real one. Not only will it let you know if someone is breaking into your car, but if something hits it as well.

Fully plan on it, but just wanted something temp. for another month or two until I got around to getting it. I have to much with the CarPC to try fooling around and installing an alarm right now. After it is completely in it would be stupid of me not to have an alarm

Re: Fake alarm LED

well then just get a 9v battery, a blinking led from radioshack, and a resistor for it. :) should last more than two months just leave it hooked up somewhere visible and try to hide the battery lol

Re: Fake alarm LED

Brilliant! haha is there any circuit that grounds itself when the ignition is off that I could use though? The led would piss me off if it was going off at night while driving.

Re: Fake alarm LED

Put a hat or rag over it when you drive :)

Also, when you get an alarm, see if there are any out there that will insure your stuff. Some have like 100K guarantees that will cover if your car is broken into while you have their alarm installed.

get a SPDT or DPDT 12VDC relay. hook the coil up to ACC power. then run the power for the LED across the NC contact of the relay. so when the car is on, the relay is energized and power is removed from the LED. turn car off, power goes to the LED.

Re: Fake alarm LED

i will upload a relay diagram tomarrow.. my comp is acting weird it will make a lot more sense you will just need to buy a led module for the blinking.. you will also need a spdt relay you can pick one up at your local bestbuy for like ten bucks.. they usually have them in the install bay

Re: Fake alarm LED

ok... buy a spdt relay, and wire it like this

86-> acc. (fused)
85->ground
30->contsant(fused)
87a->LED output.

connect the other side of the LED to ground

the led will stay on unless you buy a blinking led.

hope this helps
