What to do with the stock speakers... **Video and DIY Inside**

4 Attachment(s)
So, I replaced my OEM speakers with Alpine SPR-17C's for the fronts and Infinity Reference 9623i's for the front.. I got bored and decided to experiment with the OEM front speakers and made myself a ghetto-fabulous iPod (not-so) boom box.. lol.. It plays my ipod loud enough to make me happy and it's plenty loud if I wanna go bumpin my old school hip-hop down the street with the ghetto-fabulous box sittin' on my shoulder.. just thought I'd share one of many things I do to kill boredeom and not spend money

As ghetto as that looks. It actually sound pretty good. I've been in many cars which have worst stereo systems than this setup. I might have to try this out with my stock speakers as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: What to do with the stock speakers... **56k friendly! (I think)**

haha.. it's too easy to make a DIY.. lol.. the hardest part was taking my RCA splitter and soldering the wires from the speaker to it..

there is no power supply.. if you look at the guts picture, it goes from the back of the speakers (red on the positive and black on the negative.. duh) to the female RCA connectors I have protruding through the box, to a Monster Cable RCA to headphone jack cable (what I originally used for my iPod hook up), to the iPod.. I was surprised how loud they were with absolutely no amplification other than what the iPod puts out..

p.s... I would rip it apart to make a DIY, but I used gorilla glue to hold the speakers on

Alright.. due to popular demand and how ghetto-ly awesome it is, here's how to do it.. and MS Paint pwns you all

Step 1
Grab your old stock speakers, locate the "+" and "-" signs just above the spade-like connectors. They should be in the same spot as I have shown in the drawing. Cut out parts of the box to allow for the protruding parts of the back of the speaker. On the right of the drawing is how I have my ghetto boom box set up. Make sure you have enough room both on the front and back of the box to fit both speakers.

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/a...1&d=1219596672

Step 2
Wire up the speakers however you please. I used the existing soldered connections to guarantee that I'll get some sort of sound out of 'em. You can also use female spade connections on the existing ones, but I was feeling frisky so I busted out the soldering iron.

Solder the negative and positive wires to an RCA connector. If you decide to do as I have done and find an RCA splitter sitting around and use that, look at #2 in the drawing. If you have one that's for say, an amp wiring kit or one from radio shack or something, look at #1. I used the middle connection for the negative and the outer for the positive.

If you have any doubts about your connections, use a multi-meter and turn the dial to the lowest resistance setting, and if you don't have a connection, the display wont change (it'll display something along the lines of "1 . "). However, if you do have a connection of sorts, it'll display random numbers, probably decreasing-ish values, and perhaps stable out at a low value.

Step 3
Mount the speaker and RCA connection to the box somehow. I poked holes for the RCA connection and gorilla glued the speakers to the box. I'm using an RCA to 3.5mm jack wire to play my ipod with and stuffed the rest of the wire in the box.

Step 4
Seal it up however you like, make random thing on it (I added a handle and an iPod holder) and go walking down the street, bumpin' some old school hip hop with your new ghetto boom box

Total cost: If you have everything laying around, then $0. A whole lot cheaper than the LaSonic iPod ghetto blaster retailing for $180, but there's less features (no SD card reader, no AM/FM radio, etc..)
