Pics of the W7's installed...

Finally got off my butt and took pictures of the install. Nothing special, but a little nicer than you normal carpetted box (which is what I was going to originally do, lol).

very nice, im much more impressed by the clean low key installs rather than the flashy look at me installs.

that trunk lid looks sweet, did you just spray it with adhesive and carpet over?

slick 03-08-2006 09:31 PM

Yep, did it years ago. Covered the trunk lid with Dynamat, looked like crap. Taped off the areas I didn't want glue, and sprayede it, layed carpet over it, and cut off the excess. Super easy way to add some "class" to the car.

import2nr 03-08-2006 09:32 PM

looks realllllllly good!

shmik1 03-08-2006 11:25 PM

son of a bitch thats nice!

wut ru powering those with?

slick 03-08-2006 11:40 PM

Thanks.

Using a JL 1000/1. Its hidden in the spare tire well, but I plan to build something to show them off a little because they have that chrome finish.

Da1lyDr1ver 03-09-2006 12:11 AM

looks very clean. did you DIY? they must weigh a ton.

CivicHX01 03-09-2006 12:33 AM

super clean install... and yea, show off that 1000/1, its a sexy ass amp...

slick 03-09-2006 12:42 AM

I hang out at a local car audio store, all the guys there are my friends. Me and the sales guy did the install, he was bored and the other guys have installs to do.
And yes, it weighs a ton, lol. Those woofers are heavy themselves, and then the box (doesn't help that the face of the box is double thick).

LuZi0n 03-09-2006 01:10 AM

looks real nice , i bet it does get pretty loud. That was a quick decision and install huh, wasnt it only a week ago you were asking what subs to get?

ragingSPAM 03-09-2006 01:11 AM

damn those must shake the crap out of everything around you

fallout 03-09-2006 01:45 AM

Damn! It's the exact setup i wanna do!
How do you cut that wall so perfectly to fit with the wheel well. PLZ tell me your secret!
So clean!

02cvcEX 03-09-2006 02:17 AM

:damn: :damn: :damn:

w7s are freaking sick ... BUT TWO?! big ballller

mugenman 03-09-2006 02:44 AM

damn bro thats nice!!!! i <3 JL audio heh i was pondering what system id get if i had a ton of money at my disposal id go with 2 12 w7's heh i have 2 12 w1's and i like em. for entry level subs they pound im thinking if i went with a bigger amp id make a ton more noise heh

juzthewy 03-09-2006 06:43 AM

i have 700w pure flow to one w6 and my bass is incredible so i can only imagine how two w7's sound with the 1000/1. did u bridge the box to get both subs running off the one amp?

slick 03-09-2006 08:40 AM

The bass does get a little crazy at times, I mean, the roof, where the sunroof is, shakes like a mofo, I can't stop the rattles there lol.
The trim panel is easy. Just use a piece of cardboard and cut it the height you need. Then butt it up against the wheel well and use a sharpie to make a rough outline of the wheel well. Cut it out and place it in the wheel well area, then make little adjustments/cuts to it until it fits the way you want. Took me all of 5 minutes to do it, wasn't hard at all. If I remember, I will take pics of the cardboard, to give you an idea of what I did.
As for the wiring, since they are single voice coil woofers, I connected woofer 1 to woofer 2 (positive to positive, negative to negative) and then woofer one to the terminal cup I put on the back of the box, then from the terminal cup to the amp.
I really like the W1v2's, one of my favorite JL subs. Nice quality and good sound/output for the money.
Thanks again for the compliments guys.

eye_see_you 03-09-2006 09:00 AM

simple and clean just the way I like it and the way it should be

shmik1 03-09-2006 10:29 AM

jl's site says 30lbs each, DAMN! thats a lot of weight, but its worth it! :)

my friend had a 12" w3v2 and was running about 400-450rms to it i think.. man that thing was nice! I've never heard a W7 in person..

cjw 03-09-2006 01:13 PM

beautiful. Very clean install.

blouisgod 03-09-2006 01:22 PM

looks sweet

Rufus 03-09-2006 06:12 PM

Your trunk prob weighs as much as mine

slick 03-09-2006 06:18 PM

1000/1, 450/4, 3/4" MDF false floor, 2.2 cubic foot enclosure made of 3/4" MDF (double thick face), 2 10W7's. Yep, I think thats quite heavy, but then again, I don't have a sports car so its all good, lol.

BTW, I just bought new brakes for better stopping power, lol.

A03 03-09-2006 09:34 PM

Very nice Slick. Car audio is a bit of an addiction isn't it? Always want somthing a little better. How is your electrical system doing with the 1000/1 and 4 ch? Have you noticed any drop in voltage when you jam the bass?

slick 03-09-2006 09:46 PM

Voltage drop = yes. But nothing significant. Measured 13.1v with the system cranked, playing a 40hz tone at idle (I have a high output alternator). Even when playing music with large bass notes, the voltage never drops under 13.0 volts.
My car audio addiction makes me sick when I think about all the money and product I have been through in the past 3 years.

emdude4 03-10-2006 01:06 AM

thats a sick setup!!! i plan on doing a setup like that soon but with a solo x. do you still have access to the spare???

slick 03-10-2006 08:32 AM

I don't have the spare right now in the car, the amps are in the spare tire well.

What I was planning on doing to show off the amps was to put them on the back of the box, and trim it out. So you can only see them if you fold down the back seats, and that way, I can put the spare tire back in the car.

CustomXSpunjah 03-10-2006 09:13 PM

instead of doing that i think you should sink it into the floor it would be a really nice install

Rufus 03-11-2006 11:12 AM

False floors are fun but remember our cars are made of plastic. EVERYTHING will rattle...

white2K2EX 03-11-2006 11:55 AM

Dude I had one 10W7 in my Civic and that was more then enough for me. You went overboard, but at least you picked some nice stuff to go overboard with.

So let's say you turn it up... think you could get your deck lid to just fall on the ground?
