AlpineCivic 10-20-2004 12:24 AM

Thats just to low for me but shit the work is good!

Civic_Racer9 10-20-2004 01:35 AM

wow thats awesome!!!

djspot 10-20-2004 09:15 AM

thanks!!!!

oh about it being too low...honestly, I think its at a perfect angle, you really do gotta be inside the car to know what I mean...and plus, being where it is, and how we designed the side walls, it really blocks out any possible glare from the sun...Im gonna be installing a modded xbox and update the harddrive so all my music is gonna run from the xbox hard drive and Im gonna use the screen as my menu...xbox media player is tooo nice!!!

my worry at first was that it was too low, but after we started on it...it seemed like the perfect spot...its not all out there so u can see it from outside the car, which helps a little interms of theft...with my tint, at night time, you cant see the screen there, its all black...so thats good...it helps a little!

LudlamTheory 10-20-2004 10:27 AM

good job sir

what size screen is that

J187 10-20-2004 10:41 AM

Excellent. Don't suppose you could get some clearer pictures? Nice clean work, bro. I think its the perfect spot as well. I might do something just like that when I build my car-pc.

djspot 10-20-2004 11:46 AM

its 6.5 screen but the viewing area is smaller....but the quality is amazing, it has to source inputs and a couple of different viewing options like widescreen and so on...

The only reason I say its to low is although most people say they dont do it, driving and trying to watch a movie with the screen that low is very difficult. When you have an indash fold out screen its high up and you can almost do both (drive and watch a movie). Other than that it looks good!

djspot 10-20-2004 04:09 PM

can't take the credit here...my dad did all the work really, well I did help and such but all the details that u can really see in person, are all on him...he's really good, first time him or I have done any thing like this...we did everything to my car, body kit which required som serious modifying (the sides, because they were fukin' terrible when I got them) my sound and everything else....

Aplinecivic, trust me I wont be trying to watch a movie and drive at the same time, thats irresponsible, Im only gonna play video games and drive at the same time..LOL...jokes :D but fo'real I really doubt I'll do that...I do a lot of waiting in my car, and sometimes long trips during the summer so I thought it would be a nice little treat for the passengers, and myself when Im waiting for something, or somebody in the car....

norek 10-20-2004 06:18 PM

did you use bondo or fiberglass for that?

zen_master 10-20-2004 06:25 PM

damn, superb work, awesome...................i wonder whether honda gonna create stuff like that in the future...lol

Caucasian.Asian 10-20-2004 07:04 PM

damn, something so simple looking makes your interior look so more refined

djspot 10-20-2004 07:56 PM

we used Duraglass...which is a fibreglass based body filler...and obviously we used the wood as the skelton. Its funny, at work right now, we have big honda guys coming by...I work for a company called fuelmaker (www.fuelmaker.com), and we've developed a natural gas refueling appliance which is to be sold in the States, Honda are co-owners of my company...so hey who knows the right person might see it and u never know...lol...we might see it in the future...

I wish ya'll could see it in person...it honestly makes the car look like a more "expensive" car, the center console and the leather seats really do make it look like a higher priced car...

and about the honda guys that were there, Im talking about the president, vice president, some manufacture guys, right now we got a few purchasing managers...and I must say these are some of the coolest, nicest and smartest people I've ever meant...very respectful people, that dont use their positions as a means of hi-archy (like, Im so and so, Im better than you), you really dont get that impression from me...

apparently they were all outside during the summer looking at my car and shit...

nunzio42 10-20-2004 09:59 PM

is that a piece that goes over the exsisting center console? or does it completely replace the center console.....thats exactly what i want to do but i just needed to play around with the materials and u beat me to it.........derek has a complete custom one and i was looking at it and trying to design something similar....... How long did it take? if it is placed over.......did u cut the original console? what did u cover the wood with (vynl? or paint)? how did u make the skeleton (trial an error or making a skeleton using the stock console? sorry for all the questions but the car looks pimp and i want to do that sooooo bad....

btw nice shift knob i have the same one and i love it.......hot cheap lil knob from ractive!

djspot 10-21-2004 09:06 AM

no problem...the exsisting centre console is still there no modifications done to it except 5 drill holes on eachside...it took about 5 days to do for about 3-4 hours a day...but remember like I said my dad did basically all the work, and he has a lot of experience working with body filler, bondo, fibreglass filler all that shit...after the fibreglass filler (Duraglass) was sanded down and all the little details were done...again, my dad, painted it at his works paint booth, using normal automotive paint (black) with a faux plastic texture...it really looks and feels exactly like the normal console where the deck is...I'll take some pics to day, close up as possible to try and catch the texture and little details...

oh and believe it or not, there was no trial and error everything went smooth from start to finish...no design on paper or nothing, we just designed and did adjustments and added little details as it went along

nunzio42 10-21-2004 10:58 PM

ok so let me ge tthis right u simply.....added on to your exsisting console, by adding the brackets on top and screwing them on the sides? If you could get some pics of the sides (where the screws are, and some close ups of where the actually pieces begin and end that would be great......now correct me if i am wrong but didnt u remove the area where the shifter is and remake that part (looks as if u have a short shifter? or is that on top of the orginal console as well?

like i said it looks mad good.....i am wondering if anyone knows where i can get some of that platic paint stuff!!!

jmaz 10-23-2004 12:51 PM

i know this question is a little off topic, but what brand and exact color did you use the paint all of your pieces.

also did you prime it first? how many layers of primer, paint and clear coat?

It look great. i am thinking of doing that real soon.

Thanks

djspot 10-23-2004 05:46 PM

primer, I can't remember...they just have it at the shop...the paint is ICI Autocolor...and there is no clear coat...we used two coats

HEBEGEBZ 10-23-2004 11:32 PM

That is sweet. Nice job and great idea. I can really respect the handy work with the duraglass

buckycheer 10-23-2004 11:54 PM

How much will ur dad charge to do one of those for me, lol

MegaHurtz 10-23-2004 11:58 PM

hows about some finished pic?

tripledoublegs 10-24-2004 10:39 PM

looks perfect

909 10-25-2004 12:27 PM

Very creative DJspot. Nicely done! (I'm still selling 1200's if you know anyone interested)

I like seeing posts like this, however in my situation, I'm using a 10.4" touchscreen and I don't think it would fit in that location without compromising the area close to the gas pedal. Plus the with the stick in the way, the rear passengers would have a partially blocked viewing angle. However, the angle from the driver's and passenger view look good.

From the looks of it the front seats rub your new center console. In my ride, I always have people comming in and out of my backseats, which means a lot of sliding goes on. Can you take a closer picture of where the seat meets up with the center console.

HomerSimpson 10-25-2004 12:47 PM

That is awesome work, looks really nice

againifall 10-25-2004 03:59 PM
