makeshift component?

I've got some infinity 6.5s with the tweeters built on, and i think the tweeters blew (when i listen to music there is no high end), i was wondering if i picked up some infinty 10.2ts or something if it would work good

MegaHurtz 08-09-2004 08:38 PM

What are infinity 10.2ts?

If you used the woofer and tweeter as a 2 way component set and got an x-over for them it would probably work pretty good

booba5185 08-09-2004 08:41 PM

their the mountable tweeters that infinty makes that you can buy seperate

MegaHurtz 08-09-2004 08:53 PM

Ya

would sound good on seperate channels or mated to the woofer with a crossover

I am having a brain fart right now and can't remember if component x-overs are passive or active but for some reason Iam thinking passive..

doubledeuce2k2 08-09-2004 08:55 PM

well they are passive

MegaHurtz 08-09-2004 08:57 PM

I knew that :p

booba5185 08-09-2004 09:02 PM

i was gonna wire it right into the 6.5s, just run it in parrallel so my amp drops to 2 ohms

MegaHurtz 08-09-2004 09:13 PM

Ya you can do that too but it won't sound very good

I say wire it to 8 first and see how it sounds

booba5185 08-09-2004 10:17 PM

coo, thx

why not somehow remove the broken tweeter, find where the power connects and try connect the power to the component tweeter to there, so the crossing over will be have been all done..

also, if you want, you can build yourself a simple passive crossover for yourself.

note that on some 2way's, the capacitor is located directly under the tweeter. if you hack off the tweeter, so you can glue on a new one, make sure you take the capacitor off to use with the new tweeter, else low frequencies will reach the tweeters....

low frequencies will blow tweeters...

btw, i think if you buy component tweeters without woofers, you will need a highpass filter for them. ie. a capacitor in series...

doubledeuce2k2 08-10-2004 09:12 AM

you could so buy an infinity reference set online for almost the cost of a set of tweeters and crossovers. and i bet they would sound better too. i wouldn't bother with all the hassle to save maybe $20

booba5185 08-10-2004 09:18 AM

i've got the reference infinitys now and the tweeters blew, i have a dx so i can't use the tweeter pods, so i'd have to mount them on the door also. as far as a crossover, that's easy, there's crossover clacs alover the net and then i just gotta buy 2 or 4 caps

doubledeuce2k2 08-10-2004 10:05 AM

i was talking about a reference component set, non coaxial. tweeters look like about 40 on ebay. 6000cs sets end up 50-60 bux. mounting tweeters in the doors isn't that tough with a hole saw.

booba5185 08-10-2004 10:07 AM

ah, i was always raised with inifinity being one of the best, am i right or whats the best, yet reasonably priced??

doubledeuce2k2 08-10-2004 11:22 AM

there is no best. infinity reference have some midbass to them, but their highs aren't super sharp. there are many speaker companies out there, each with good and bad products, and someone will swear to each one of them.
