Anyone done a port & polished head? I was thinking of getting a used head and getting it ported and polished and possibly a 3 angle-valve job. has anyone had any experience with this at all? im sure with the d17a i wont see a huge increase in HP gain but every little bit helps. thanks lucas norman |
pm spider883, or black99vtec- that's the only 2 i remember reading that have that done. |
i heard you get alot of power out of it.....think about it this way d17a2 have a higher comprossion ratio and more displacement and have the same hp as the d16a2....the d17a2 just doesn't breathe well....i've heard that with a catback, headers, intake, and port and polish the d17 puts out about 170 |
bluebullet - that's probably got some truth to it, but it's gonna take some waiting for a company more reputable than GUDE to come out with a head pkg or some major custom work. |

when are we gonna get JUN parts anyway, if ever? |
bs.... port and polished wouldn't put us at 170... port and polish = barely any hp... |
170 HP no, but a considerable amount yes. the D17 sux at breathing. its very resticted. if you can open up the air flow better the engine will put out better amouts of HP. in that sense it does somewhat have potential. internals is what will make our car fast. the turbo is good but running it a low boost level kinda sux. the internals will help everything out. our D17's can be somehwhat quick with much money invested. and i'm really interested in seeing the results of the regrinded cam gear. |
I will have pics up soon. I have my whole motor almost complete. I am getting it done by brevard cylinder head here in merritt island florida. HEAD: Port and polish (exhaust port bored 1/2 inch then beveled & intake bored 1/8 inch then beveled)= $300 4 angle valve job = 200 light weight and 2 mm bigger valves = $350 Custom intake manifold = $350 Custom throttle body (70 mm) = $400 BOTTOM END: Bore and sleeve the cylinder walls = $750 Stud the head instead of bolts = $300 JE lower compresion racing pistons = $550 Shot peened rods = $120 TURBO: manifold = $450 turbo (T3) = $700 Intercooler = $450 Downpipe = $75 Piping (custom fit) = $190 Wastegate (delta gate) = $200 B.O.V. (greddy) = $200 Bigger injectors = $380 Upgraded fuel system (return line set up) = $1400 OTHER: crank pully = $200 Custom exhaust = $450 This makes our motor good for 30 pounds of boost. The turbo only puts out 22 psi. The only thing holding us up is rods. They don't make rods yet so we have to get them shot peened. Shot peened rods are only good for about 12 pounds of boost. After the SEMA show we might have custom rods made. Contact me for the hook up on parts: (321)-403-7833 Phil EDIT: Found out that rods will be here after SEMA show. So we can run about 20 pounds of boost. |
Hey way to go man. I decided to go the other way around with going k20a, but for 8k, thats not bad. I hope you are running higher than 300hp to the wheels though with that setup. Good luck with everything!:) |

I am currently starting another D17A2 if anyone is interested in buying a fully moded internaly and turbocharged motor. My next step after this motor is to start in on the k series. contact me: (321)-403-7833 Phil contact machine shop: Brevard Cylinder Head (321)-453-3317 Vic (the guy who is working on my motor) merritt island florida |
Nice, I want to see the times are a dyno when you are done then im gona try to get the same setup, and by then rods will be out and hopefully some other stuff |
guys call crower. i emailed Brian Crower and he said he has rods for 177 apiece for the 7th gen. |
