Radar Detector Location Just wondering where people have their radar detectors mounted. I have mines under the dome lights w/ suction cups. Trying to think of another place to relocate it. Any suggestions? |
Is it battery operated or do you have wires and things running along in the car. Got to keep it OEM clean....I want to get one but I don't want some silly shiet sticking out of my power outlet all the time. They should offer one that can be installed in the dash, lkkejust the led or something, that would look smooth. |
TypeR: do u mean "mounted on the windshield, under the dome lights"? i hope u don't have it right under the lights... sensor would be right behind the mirror! either way, those are map lights up front, not dome lights... Jekyll: this is what you're thinking of... see, anything's possible with money... $1000 this time |
C'mon guys get creative. . Here's what you do. You take your radar detector. . If it has a power outlet car plug in then chop that SOB off. Put it up high like behind the rearview mirrior. . It's outta your viewing area too..Then hook it to a 12 V Constant wire somewheres in the car with a switch, then run the wires through the ceiling so you'll never see them .. Easy beezy.. looks clean, don't have hanging wires, and it's up high so it'll work better. So that's my opinion .. Good luck.. |
yo ~ check out the DIY for hard wiring a radar detector... thats EXACTLY how i did mine except i have it placed on the passenger side of the car... works great and no stupid connector wire running from the outlet to the top of the car... |

if you have the money, get the escort SR-1. that is THE cleanest install that i've EVER seen for a radar detector. there are two sensors, on is on the rear bumper and the other on the front bumper and the only thing in the car is the display which can be mounted on your dash or instrument cluster. as for me, i have mine hardwired and mounted up just under my rearview mirror. |
i put mine sorta on top of the miron in front of the lights, it looks clean. i got it installed for 10 bucks if you dont want to do it yourself |
Quote
Originally posted by: Krepoort I believe detectors need to be as high as possible to be the most effective. If you're thinking of relocating to the dash or something, it seems like it'll defeat the purpose of having it in the first place. And yeah, the DIY Hardwire Detector is some good ish. -Kre
|
the place where escort makes their stuff is like 5 miles away |
I really need a radar detector come August- got to make the 12 our drive to PA for college and poor students can't pay tickets. |
I have a Escort 8500 and the best place to put it is high enough on the center windshield so that the "rear window facing detector" is "splitting" the front seats and is high enough to clear the rear seats as to pick up the radar from the rear. If you own a Escort 8500 you'll know what I'm talking about. |
i have a cobra 9550. it does a pretty good job, i just put mine up in the window, close to the dash... it doesnt look bad at all n it has a coiled wire so it just goes straight down by the knobs for the air n all. put it in the middle of the dash, so it works better. |
And why is it better to have them mounted higher... |
I have the Bel 980 I just suction cup the thing to the windshield and then plug it into the lighter. Sucks when its sunny though can't really put it up by the mirror I have tint up there. Nick |
