unless your gonna get a turbo, or N2O. the oem spark plugs should do fine. just take out your spark plugs and see if they need to be cleaned or dirty if so then get new ones. but you should be fine.

When should you change them

I think our cars come with platinum plugs. We could change them after some 100,000 miles. In other words, not yet!

I would say trash those stock plugs and get some Denso Iridium Plugs !! JMO.

The 7th gen civic comes factory with NGK platinum plugs. The only thing that would be an upgrade is the denso Iridium plugs but unless you have an engine that is set up for that it is a waste of money

Actually, the Iridium plugs are not a waste of money even if you have a fairly mild engine. I just purchased some NGK Double-Platinum plugs to replace the NGK Iridium plugs and found that acceleration suffered. The Iridium plugs are designed to be extremely efficient and thus requiring less voltage for spark. I noticed a difference and will be going back to the Iridium plugs ASAP.

You can get these Iridium plugs from Monarch Products on-line.

Oh really? Hum... About how much are we talking about? For a set of four that is?

3rdcivic 05-22-2002 06:53 PM

$6.40 per Iridium IX plug + shipping.

drbombay 05-23-2002 01:15 AM

change them after 30k

Macko 05-23-2002 11:19 AM

First off.our stock plugs are platinum.. (i think)

so go with anything from NGK or DENSO platinum or higher which is Iradium

Also... Check the condition of the old plugs different residue on the tips can tell you if there's sumthing wrong with the engine... not nuff fuel, firing to ealry, blah ,blah

I got a Sparkplug diagnostic pics somewhere in my room... if i find it i'll post it up... but your car is pretty new so i doubt anything will be wrong with them

:)

so seriously how often do the spark plugs NEED to be changed....not just for fun but when does HONDA require we change them???

IDQcivic 05-23-2002 12:20 PM

I upgraded mine to the Denso Iridium IK20's, my stock ones were already all black and rounded off... I like the denso's, noticed a little improvement over the stock ones... The engine ran a little smoother, and noticed less misfires and hesitations...
