AEM Bypass Valve, very bad for enigine?
 

I searched, found a few topics about this, but i want more of a focused consensus about this,

recently my car is doing weird stuff when it rains, it starts to vibrate really strong and i can feel i'm losing power, this is only when it rains, so i'm pretty sure its my Injen CAI, I called a store closed to me asking for the bypass valve, they told its really bad for the car, as in suction is way worse and its just bad in general, the only other solution they gave me was to relocate, but wut da heck thts crazy!

I've heard tales of pieces of the bypass valve coming of and going into throttle body. Although I know what it looks like from the outside, I have no idea what the inside looks like, so I don't know what comes apart inside.

As of to this date I have had no problems with my AEM bypass valve. I heard it is there to protect water from getting into your engine so I dont see how it can cause problems having it. I have had no problems though with my Injen CAI though as far as when it rains and such.

ok cool, is the dimaeter of injen pipe 2.5?

Before you try the bypass could you disconnect the extension tube and run it like a SRI when it's raining and see if the cures the problem? If it does, get the bypass valve. If it doesn't, then something else is wrong.

This almost sounds like some ignition component getting wet, rather than an intake problem.

dunno its weird, b4 it was ok but now its not...... actually when it rained i could feel some weird vibration but after getting custom mid-pipe thats when i could really feel it, but i'm pretty sure its rain and cai

My auto shop teacher doesn't like the design of the bypass value. Looks it is always sucking in some air, that's why there is a small power loss. And it's placed right where it'd sucking in dirty air from the engine bay. I decided not to go with it. If you look there's a guy on this website from Texas and he had his filter halfway submerged in water and had no problems. So I don't worry about water, it's a civic not a hummer. You shouldn't drive through 2 foot deep water anyway, your car could float away.

The stories of the bypass valve coming apart and lodging in the throttle body are true, however this was a bad batch that caused it and all have been recalled, the ones that you buy now are NOT a danger. Secondly, if you feel it is necessary (I didn't, but I got a good price), the valve is not bad for your engine, if it is partially open ever (under normal operation it is not) the foam surrounding the valve is the filter for the air, its the exact same thing as the old foam filters cars used to use. yeah it's 2.5. I installed mine today N I love it to death. Is it hecka bad for the engine to redline with the intake?

not really bad, its bad to work your engine out too much like flooring it and stuff
